EVO Singapore 2027 Confirmed at Marina Bay Sands in January

Fighting game fans in Singapore, mark your calendars right now. The Evolution Championship Series — the world’s longest-running and most prestigious fighting game tournament — is coming to Singapore for the very first time in January 2027, and it is bringing the Tekken World Tour Finals with it.

EVO Singapore 2027: January 15-17 at Marina Bay Sands

EVO General Manager Rick “The Hadou” Thiher confirmed the inaugural EVO Singapore 2027 from the main stage at EVO 2026 on June 28. The event is locked in for January 15-17, 2027 at Marina Bay Sands, making Singapore the first Southeast Asian city to host an official EVO event.

The announcement is part of a significant global expansion for EVO. In 2027 the organisation is rolling out regional events across five continents — Saudi Arabia, China, Morocco, Brazil and Mexico are also on the calendar — but Singapore is one of the first to have a confirmed date and venue. Locking in Marina Bay Sands immediately signals the scale EVO is aiming for here: MBS is one of Singapore’s premier convention and entertainment destinations, and has hosted major international esports and gaming events before.

The headliner alongside EVO Singapore is the Tekken World Tour 2026 Global Finals, running concurrently from January 14-17, 2027. This is the first time in the TWT’s history that the season-ending Finals — the event that crowns the world’s best Tekken player — will be held at an official EVO venue. Tekken 8 will have a major presence, and the Finals format guarantees the field will be the strongest possible: spots go to winners of the three Master+ events, the EWC 2026 champion, the top 16 players from the Global Leaderboard, the top 15 from Regional Leaderboards, and one Last Chance Qualifier slot.

Tekken has always had a massive following in Southeast Asia, and the prospect of watching the TWT Finals live at Marina Bay Sands — with the region’s own top players competing for a world title on home soil — is exactly the kind of moment the Singapore FGC scene has been waiting for.

What Games Will Be at EVO Singapore 2027?

EVO has not yet announced the full game lineup for the Singapore event. Tekken 8 is confirmed given the TWT Finals. Beyond that, EVO 2026 in Las Vegas featured Street Fighter 6, Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves, Under Night In-Birth II Sys:Celes, Granblue Fantasy Versus Rising and Rivals of Aether II — and some of those titles will almost certainly appear on the Singapore bracket too, though nothing is official yet.

EVO 2026 also packed in a run of Tekken 8 news SG fans should know about: Bob (the Onigiri Savior himself) joins as Season 3 DLC with early access from August 19 and general availability from August 24, 2026. There is plenty of reason to brush up on the game well before January.

Tickets, Registration and How to Stay Updated

Ticket sales and player registration details for EVO Singapore 2027 have not yet been released. The official site evosingapore.gg is live, and PlayStation Singapore’s EVO page is another place to watch for updates. Tekken World Tour bracket registration details will appear at tekkenworldtour.com when they open.

EVO Japan 2027 is also confirmed for April 30 – May 2 at Tokyo Big Sight, giving the region back-to-back major FGC events in the first five months of the year. For the Singapore FGC — a community that has been grinding locals, travelling to overseas brackets and building grassroots scenes for years — having a world-championship event with the Tekken World Tour Finals at Marina Bay Sands in January is the biggest home-turf announcement in a very long time.

TEKKEN! CARTOON Revealed at EVO 2026 — Chibi Kuma Is Here

Bandai Namco dropped a surprise at EVO 2026 last night: TEKKEN! CARTOON, a brand-new animated project that trades the franchise’s signature grittiness for chibi versions of Kuma, Kazuya, and the rest of the gang. The official teaser is out now — and it looks nothing like what most Tekken fans expected.

What Is TEKKEN! CARTOON?

Revealed at EVO 2026 in Las Vegas on 26 June 2026, TEKKEN! CARTOON is a newly announced animated project from Bandai Namco Entertainment. The teaser puts familiar faces — Kuma the bear, the masked warrior Yoshimitsu, android Alisa, martial artist Paul Phoenix, and the perennial villain Kazuya Mishima — in a superdeformed, brightly coloured style that leans hard into comedy.

It’s a sharp change of direction from Tekken: Bloodlines, the 2022 Netflix anime that adapted the story of Tekken 3 with a dark, dramatic edge. TEKKEN! CARTOON is pointing in the opposite direction entirely — think animated shorts in the vein of game-studio chibi spinoffs, rather than a prestige series. Given how distinctive the Tekken cast is across three decades of games, there’s a lot of comedic mileage in that aesthetic.

Who’s Making It?

Bandai Namco has assembled a dedicated team for the project:

  • Director: Sohta Ozawa (NERD studio)
  • Character Designer & Animator: Amehiro
  • Director of Photography: Yuta Kakei
  • Creative Directors/Planners: Syohei Hashimoto and Hironori Hasegawa
  • Brand Supervisor: TEKKEN Project

Amehiro handling both character design and animation suggests a tight, focused production rather than a large-scale studio effort. The superdeformed style plays to each character’s strengths: Kuma’s sheer bulk, Yoshimitsu’s erratic energy, and Kazuya’s perpetual scowl all translate naturally into visual comedy. Whether this expands into a full series or stays as a run of animated shorts is still to be announced.

Release Date and Platform: Nothing Confirmed Yet

As of the EVO 2026 announcement, there is no confirmed release date, platform, or distribution partner. As reported by Push Square, Bandai Namco’s official statement reads: “Your favourite #TEKKEN characters are coming out of the ring and into the cartoon world. Keep an eye on our socials for more news about the TEKKEN! CARTOON.”

More details are expected at upcoming events later in 2026. For now, Bandai Namco’s official social channels are the best place to watch for updates.

Tekken in Singapore — A Ready-Made Audience

Tekken 8 has been a staple of Singapore’s local FGC scene since launch, with a dedicated player base spanning community meetups and competitive online play. The timing of the reveal — right in the middle of EVO 2026, where Tekken 8 is one of the main featured titles — puts it in front of the global fighting game community at peak attention.

After Tekken: Bloodlines found an audience on Netflix, there is a reasonable precedent for Bandai Namco’s Tekken animated content reaching streaming platforms that are accessible here. Nothing is confirmed — but when more details drop, we’ll have them. Watch this space.

You Are Already Dead: Kenshiro Hits Fatal Fury This June

The post-apocalyptic heir to Hokuto Shinken is heading to South Town. SNK has confirmed Kenshiro from Fist of the North Star as the sixth and final DLC character in Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves‘ Season Pass 2, launching sometime this month — and EVO 2026, which kicked off today in Las Vegas, is your first chance to play him.

The Kenshiro Fatal Fury Crossover: Why This Pairing Makes Sense

For anyone who grew up watching anime in Singapore in the late 80s and 90s — or encountered the countless memes that followed — Kenshiro from Fist of the North Star (北斗の拳) needs no introduction. He is the protagonist of Tetsuo Hara and Buronson’s seminal post-apocalyptic manga, which ran in Weekly Shōnen Jump from 1983 to 1988 and was adapted into a landmark 1984 anime series. His lethal martial art Hokuto Shinken — targeting pressure points to destroy opponents from the inside — gave the world one of the most quoted anime lines of all time.

SNK’s decision to cross him over into Fatal Fury is not random: both franchises are rooted in the same era of Japanese action culture, and the timing is deliberate. As SNK states in the official announcement, his arrival “coincides with the all-new Fist of the North Star: HOKUTO NO KEN anime, currently airing in Japan and around the world” — the 2026 remake series that premiered on Amazon Prime Video on April 11 and is now running globally.

How Kenshiro Plays in City of the Wolves

SNK describes Kenshiro’s kit as focused on “fast and formidable strikes, channelling point activations and status changes, and impressive combo options.” The character trailer shows a close-range, high-pressure playstyle — rapid blitz combos with body-implosion finishers that are faithful to the source material. He is voiced by Shunsuke Takeuchi in Japanese and Clayton Alexander in English.

Kenshiro is the sixth and final character in Season Pass 2, joining Kim Jae Hoon, Nightmare Geese, Blue Mary, Wolfgang Krauser, and Mr. Karate. Season Pass 2 is available standalone for US$19.99. The Legend Edition — which bundles the base game with both Season Passes 1 and 2 — is currently discounted on Steam until July 9. Check the Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves Steam page for current SGD pricing. The game is also on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and Xbox Series X|S.

Demo Live at EVO 2026 This Weekend

EVO 2026 is running June 26–28 in Las Vegas, and Kenshiro is available on the showfloor as a playable hands-on preview. SNK has confirmed his full launch for “June 2026” without locking a specific date — with EVO underway and the demo already live, a shadow drop during the event window is looking very likely.

Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves is in the main EVO 2026 bracket alongside Street Fighter 6, Tekken 8, Guilty Gear Strive, and eleven other titles. For Singapore FGC players watching from home, the pools and Showcase streams are free on EVO’s official Twitch and YouTube channels. Evening sessions in Las Vegas (PDT) land in the early morning hours SGT — PDT + 15 hours — so plan accordingly. Find more fighting game and gaming news on GameTrader.SG.

Tifa Joins Street Fighter 6: How the FF7 Crossover Happened

It is the crossover the fighting-game community has joked about for years — and now it is real. At Summer Game Fest 2026, Capcom confirmed that Tifa Lockhart from the Final Fantasy VII Remake series is joining Street Fighter 6 as a guest fighter, headlining the game’s Year 4 DLC roster. She arrives in early 2027, and the developers behind both franchises say the deal was years in the making.

Tifa headlines the Street Fighter 6 Year 4 roster

Capcom announced the Year 4 line-up on 6 June 2026, alongside the launch of the new Character Pass. Four fighters are coming, and Tifa is the marquee name:

  • Yasmin — a brand-new fighter, releasing 3 August 2026
  • Arjun — a new challenger, arriving Autumn 2026
  • Tifa — the Final Fantasy VII Remake guest, landing early 2027
  • Bosch — the World Tour antagonist, closing the season in Spring 2027

In Street Fighter 6, Tifa is written as a member of the resistance group Avalanche and a master of Zangan-style martial arts who finds herself pulled into a new world. Her kit leans into the close-range striking she is famous for, blended with the unique special powers she carries over from her home game.

“If it were to happen, it would be Tifa”

The most interesting part of the reveal is how long it was in the works. Speaking to Japanese outlet Denfaminicogamer (Japanese), Street Fighter 6 director Takayuki Nakayama said discussions with Square Enix began roughly two and a half to three years ago — long before the public-facing stage moments fans saw at recent showcases.

According to Nakayama, when the idea of a Final Fantasy collaboration first came up, the choice of character was never really in doubt: “もし実現するなら、やはり『ティファ』でしょう” — “If it were to happen, it would certainly be Tifa.” Her hand-to-hand fighting style made her the obvious fit for a game built entirely around martial combat.

Nakayama added that the Street Fighter team worked closely with the Final Fantasy VII Remake creative side — including series figurehead Tetsuya Nomura — to keep Tifa authentic, saying they wanted to carry over the original’s most appealing and memorable elements “as much as possible” while rebuilding her as a genuine Street Fighter character.

Materia, rebuilt as a Street Fighter system

This is not a straight cosmetic port. Japanese coverage from Famitsu (Japanese) confirms that Materia from Final Fantasy VII has been worked into a new battle system for Tifa. The developers also teased that a further mechanic “symbolic of Final Fantasy” will be implemented, though they declined to detail it at the reveal — a tantalising hint that her kit will feel distinct from anything currently on the Street Fighter 6 roster.

It is a notably ambitious approach for a guest fighter. Rather than dropping a Final Fantasy skin onto an existing moveset, Capcom is folding FF7’s signature progression idea into fighting-game mechanics — the kind of design swing that tends to define whether a crossover character is remembered fondly or quietly forgotten.

Why Square Enix finally said yes

Tifa has long been one of gaming’s most requested crossover guests, and Square Enix has historically been protective of her. At the reveal, Final Fantasy VII Remake series director Naoki Hamaguchi acknowledged that many other game IPs had asked for Tifa over the years, but that the studio had been reluctant to “give her away” because she is so beloved worldwide, as relayed in Square Enix’s explanation of Tifa’s inclusion.

What changed was timing and fit: with the Final Fantasy VII Remake series highly active and a new entry on the horizon, and with Tifa’s martial-arts identity matching Street Fighter 6 so neatly, both sides felt the moment was finally right. For Tekken fans who had spent years imagining Tifa in Bandai Namco’s fighter, it is Capcom that ultimately landed the deal.

What this means for Singapore gamers

Street Fighter 6 remains one of the most-played fighters in Singapore’s local FGC scene, with a steady stream of community tournaments and ranked grinders across PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC. A guest as recognisable as Tifa is the kind of mainstream draw that pulls lapsed players and Final Fantasy fans back to the lobbies — and gives the local competitive community a fresh character to theorycraft well into 2027.

The Year 4 Character Pass and Ultimate Pass are on sale now, automatically unlocking each fighter as they release, starting with Yasmin on 3 August 2026. If you have been holding off on jumping back in, the run-up to Tifa’s early-2027 launch — likely timed near the next chapter of the Final Fantasy VII Remake saga — is as good a reason as any to dust off your stick. We will update this post as Capcom reveals more of Tifa’s “symbolic” Final Fantasy mechanic.
