Fatal Fury CotW Season 3: Laocorn Gaudeamus Finally Playable, Rick Strowd Drops 23 July

SNK dropped a full Season 3 announcement trailer for Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves on 16 July, confirming six more DLC fighters arriving monthly through December 2026. The complete lineup had a genuine surprise at the end of the schedule: Laocorn Gaudeamus, the Armour of Mars-wielding villain from the Fatal Fury: The Motion Picture anime film, is finally making his first playable appearance in a game — 32 years after his big-screen debut.

As we covered on Thursday when the teaser first surfaced, Duck King and Kim Kaphwan were already confirmed. The full trailer fills in the entire roadmap and puts Rick Strowd squarely in next-week territory.

Laocorn Gaudeamus: The 1994 Film Villain Finally Gets a Fight

Laocorn Gaudeamus is the main antagonist of Fatal Fury: The Motion Picture, the 1994 anime film that served as a capstone to the Real Bout era’s storyline. In the film, Laocorn fuses with the three pieces of the Armour of Mars — an ancient relic granting immense defensive power and devastating offensive abilities. He has been a fan favourite among viewers who grew up with the film, but has never appeared as a playable character across the franchise’s three-decade run.

His November slot puts him alongside the two mystery characters as the closing act of Season 3. Whether October and December bring back returning veterans or introduce new entrants, Laocorn is already the standout addition of the pass — and his Armour of Mars powerset has obvious potential in a game built around REV-charged super states.

Rick Strowd, Duck King and Kim Kaphwan: What to Know

Rick Strowd (July 23) is a Native American boxer from Real Bout Fatal Fury 2: The Newcomers, known as the White Wolf of the Ring. His moveset revolves around energy-infused punches and vacuum air currents — a style that looks well-suited to City of the Wolves’ aggressive REV system. Duck King (August) returns with his breakdancing-based fighting style and his signature chick companion P-chan. Kim Kaphwan (September) looks noticeably older than fans are used to — the taekwondo master’s sons are already in the game, so seeing the veteran arrive next feels like the natural conclusion of that family arc.

For the Singapore FGC: with EVO Singapore 2027 confirmed at Marina Bay Sands, City of the Wolves is almost certain to be on the tournament slate, and every Season 3 character will be live well before January. Rick Strowd drops first — this Wednesday, 23 July.

SNK closed Season Pass 2 of Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves with Kenshiro’s arrival last month — then immediately signalled that South Town is far from done. On 14 July, the official SNK channel posted “The Saga Continues”, an animated teaser that confirms four incoming fighters for Season 3: Duck King, Kim Kaphwan, Rick Strowd and Laocorn Gaudeamus.

What the Season 3 Teaser Shows

The animated short opens with a recap of the Season 2 cast before cutting to the four new fighters in brief, stylised moments. Duck King grooves on a neon-lit stage; Kim Kaphwan moves through what looks like a training montage; Rick Strowd and Laocorn Gaudeamus each get a moody, dramatic close-up that hints at their darker edge.

SNK has confirmed Season 3 is beginning this month but has not yet announced individual character release dates or Season 3 pass pricing. Season 1 featured five fighters and Season 2 featured six — including Kenshiro from Fist of the North Star, who arrived as Season 2’s final fighter — suggesting Season 3 could run to a similar scale, with one or two names still to be revealed.

Duck King and Kim Kaphwan: Series Originals Long Overdue

Duck King is one of the most recognisable faces in Fatal Fury history. He first appeared in the original Fatal Fury: King of Fighters (1991) as a break-dancing hip-hop fighter with a distinctive mohawk and peace-sign pendant — the kind of expressive, unhinged character that made 90s SNK rosters so memorable. His absence from City of the Wolves at launch was one of the more discussed omissions among franchise veterans.

Kim Kaphwan needs even less introduction. The Taekwondo master debuted in Fatal Fury 2 (1992) and has appeared in nearly every SNK fighter since. Singapore players who grew up at the arcades in the 90s almost certainly have a Kim story. He is also the father of Kim Dong Hwan and Kim Jae Hoon — two characters already playable in City of the Wolves — which makes his arrival feel like a missing piece finally clicking into place.

Rick Strowd appeared in Real Bout Fatal Fury (1995) as a thunder-wielding fighter drawing on Native American tradition — a character beloved by a devoted corner of the fanbase who has long wanted him back. Laocorn Gaudeamus is the more surprising inclusion: the armoured antagonist from Fatal Fury: The Motion Picture and Fatal Fury 3, his addition suggests SNK is leaning into the deeper lore of the franchise rather than limiting Season 3 to crowd-pleasing nostalgia picks alone.

The Kenshiro Fatal Fury Crossover: Why This Pairing Makes Sense

For anyone who grew up watching anime in Singapore in the late 80s and 90s — or encountered the countless memes that followed — Kenshiro from Fist of the North Star (北斗の拳) needs no introduction. He is the protagonist of Tetsuo Hara and Buronson’s seminal post-apocalyptic manga, which ran in Weekly Shōnen Jump from 1983 to 1988 and was adapted into a landmark 1984 anime series. His lethal martial art Hokuto Shinken — targeting pressure points to destroy opponents from the inside — gave the world one of the most quoted anime lines of all time.

SNK’s decision to cross him over into Fatal Fury is not random: both franchises are rooted in the same era of Japanese action culture, and the timing is deliberate. Demo Live at EVO 2026 This Weekend

EVO 2026 is running June 26–28 in Las Vegas, and Kenshiro is available on the showfloor as a playable hands-on preview. SNK has confirmed his full launch for “June 2026” without locking a specific date — with EVO underway and the demo already live, a shadow drop during the event window is looking very likely.

Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves is in the main EVO 2026 bracket alongside Street Fighter 6, Tekken 8, Guilty Gear Strive, and eleven other titles. South Town just got a lot more dangerous. SNK has officially revealed Kenshiro from Fist of the North Star as the final Season Pass 2 DLC character for Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves, arriving this June — and the character trailer released by SNK makes clear that the successor to Hokuto Shinken is every bit as devastating in a fighting game as he is in the manga and anime.

The reveal lands at a great time: the all-new Fist of the North Star: HOKUTO NO KEN anime is currently airing, giving both longtime fans and newcomers a reason to care deeply about the man with the seven scars. In City of the Wolves‘s Arcade Mode, Kenshiro enters the King of Fighters tournament alongside Terry, Hokutomaru, and Hotaru to challenge Wolfgang Krauser’s grip on South Town.
