Phantom Blade Zero State of Play: Three Difficulty Modes, 55+ Weapons Confirmed

PlayStation gave S-GAME’s dark wuxia action RPG its own dedicated 20-minute State of Play on Monday night — landing here in Singapore just after 10am this morning — and the broadcast confirmed a range of gameplay details that hadn’t been pinned down before its 29 October launch. If you’ve been following since pre-orders went live and the Donnie Yen reveal earlier this month, here’s what the deep dive added.

Three Difficulty Modes, Including One That Wants to Break You

The biggest confirmed addition is a three-tier difficulty system. Wayfarer is the accessible entry point, keeping the story moving without punishing players heavily for mistakes. Hellwalker ramps up enemy AI behaviour for players who want a proper challenge. Then there’s Sixty-Six Days — named after the number of days protagonist Soul has left to live — which S-GAME describes as something that “isn’t for the faint of heart.”

It’s a sensible structure. Action-RPG veterans will gravitate toward Hellwalker or Sixty-Six Days, while players coming in for the wuxia world and story have a path that doesn’t demand frame-perfect parries. Singapore players who bounced off punishing action games in the past have a real option here.

55+ Weapons — and a Reforging System So Nothing Is Wasted

The State of Play put specific numbers to the arsenal for the first time: over 30 main weapons and 25 secondary weapons called Phantom Edges. Every weapon can be upgraded and paired with accessories to build toward a particular playstyle, and the reforging system lets you recover materials from a path you’ve abandoned and reinvest them elsewhere — so experimenting doesn’t lock you into a bad build.

Summons were also confirmed as a combat-assistance option, adding another variable to what is shaping up to be a fairly deep build system for an action game. Defeating enemies in the world also expands your available arsenal, tying exploration directly to your combat options.

Donnie Yen Performs Mó Yuán via Full Facial and Motion Capture

The Donnie Yen involvement had been teased, but Tuesday’s broadcast spelled out the specifics: he plays Mó Yuán, the protagonist Soul’s father, through both facial capture and full-body motion capture. He also serves as creative consultant on the martial arts choreography, lending what S-GAME calls “the essence of kung fu cinema” to the game’s combat animations. For a game built around a wuxia aesthetic, having a martial arts icon involved at the production level rather than just a licensing deal is meaningful.

Side Quests That Open New Story Paths

One smaller but notable detail from the broadcast: side quests aren’t just optional filler. According to S-GAME, completing certain side quests can “open up new story paths and deepen your understanding of this perilous martial world.” That suggests the game’s narrative has meaningful branches tied to optional content, which is worth knowing before you decide how thoroughly you want to explore Wulin.

October 29 on PS5 and PC — Pre-Orders Live

The release date remains 29 October 2026 globally on PS5, Steam, and Epic Games Store. Pre-orders are live now — check the Steam store page or the PlayStation Store for regional pricing. For more on GameTrader’s earlier coverage, see our game news section.

Phantom Blade Zero State of Play — Donnie Yen Revealed

Two pieces of confirmed news make the upcoming Phantom Blade Zero State of Play worth blocking your Tuesday calendar for: action icon Donnie Yen is officially in the game as a central character, and the dedicated PlayStation broadcast lands this Tuesday 18 August at 10am SGT.

Neither detail appeared in our coverage of the pre-order launch and 11-minute trailer — both were confirmed by S-GAME and Sony on 11–12 August via the PlayStation Blog.

Donnie Yen Is Mó Yuan — Voice, Face, and Motion Capture

Hong Kong martial arts icon Donnie Yen — known across Singapore and Southeast Asia for the Ip Man series, John Wick 4, and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story — has been contributing to Phantom Blade Zero as a creative consultant since 2023. S-GAME has now confirmed he goes further than that: Yen provides the voice, facial model, and full motion capture performance for Mó Yuan, a commanding elder figure who looms at the centre of protagonist Soul’s story.

The pre-order trailer offered the first clear look at Mó Yuan — a dark-robed patriarch carrying a glowing infant in one hand and an ornate sword in the other, carrying Donnie Yen’s features directly from face scan. His involvement makes particular sense for Singapore and the region: Yen has defined Hong Kong action cinema for two decades, and Phantom Blade Zero’s dark wuxia setting is precisely that genre transplanted into a PS5 action RPG. Having him shape the physical performance of a central character, not just advise on fight choreography, adds a layer of authenticity that’s rare in gaming.

What the State of Play Will Show

The broadcast promises nearly 20 minutes of new gameplay, covering two areas the 11-minute pre-order showcase only teased: story characters we haven’t seen yet, and the breadth of build expression the game supports. S-GAME has previously described a deep weapon and skill customisation system; this State of Play should be the first time it’s explained in meaningful detail — Sony’s own words are “just how expressive players can be with their individual builds.”

The game follows Soul, an elite operative framed for the murder of The Order’s patriarch and left with 66 days to live. The existing trailer has already shown open-environment traversal, large boss encounters, and close-quarters combat with a visual intensity that draws comparisons to animated Hong Kong action. The State of Play should expand all of that considerably.

When and Where to Watch in Singapore

The Phantom Blade Zero State of Play airs at:

  • Monday, 17 August at 7:00pm PT / 10:00pm ET (US)

  • Tuesday, 18 August at 11:00am JST (Japan)

Phantom Blade Zero Pre-Orders Go Live — 11-Minute Gameplay Trailer Out Now

S-GAME’s wuxia action RPG Phantom Blade Zero hits a new milestone today: the 11-minute extended gameplay showcase is live on YouTube right now, and pre-orders open at 10 AM SGT across the PlayStation Store Singapore, Steam and the Epic Games Store. As we covered when the studio announced it had gone gold, this is the same moment S-GAME promised would bring a big look at new story content, characters, combat — and “something unexpected.”

What the Trailer Reveals

Ahead of the full 11-minute release, S-GAME dropped a short pre-order teaser that introduced Mu Xiaokui — described as the daughter of The Order’s founder — seen standing before a burning fire and departing in what appears to be a hot-air balloon. She is the first new named character confirmed beyond Soul, the game’s protagonist who is racing against a 66-day countdown after being framed for the murder of The Order’s patriarch.

The full 11-minute showcase covers new story beats, additional characters, extended combat sequences, and the “unexpected” announcement S-GAME has been coy about — the studio’s own words, and something the game’s community has been speculating might include an Xbox Series X|S confirmation or a playable demo, though neither has been verified as of publication. Until those details are officially confirmed, treat them as speculation.

Pre-Orders Go Live at 10 AM SGT — Here’s Where to Buy

Pre-orders go live simultaneously across three storefronts at 10 AM SGT on Wednesday, 12 August 2026:

  • PlayStation Store Singapore — PS5 edition
  • Steam — PC edition
  • Epic Games Store — PC edition

SGD pricing was not announced ahead of launch and will be confirmed when pre-orders go live. If history is a guide, expect the PS5 edition to land in the S$69–S$79 range for a new AAA title of this scope, but that is a rough estimate — check the Singapore store pages directly once 10 AM hits. No pre-order bonuses have been announced as of this writing.

The game launches on 29 October 2026 for PS5 and PC. Singapore players get day-one access on both platforms, and the main story runs around 20–30 hours with side quests that influence the narrative, according to S-GAME’s earlier disclosures.

The Game in Brief

Built on Unreal Engine 5 and set in a world drawing from Chinese wuxia mythology and golden-age Hong Kong action cinema, Phantom Blade Zero casts you as Soul — a disgraced assassin with 66 days to unravel a world-ending conspiracy before the curse placed on him by The Order takes his life. The combat system pairs over 30 weapons with more than 20 “Phantom Edges” — secondary tools that reshape your playstyle — with no stamina meter locking you into cautious play. The result is a title aimed squarely at readers who have been burning through Sekiro, Black Myth: Wukong, or Rise of the Ronin and want more high-speed action with strong East Asian aesthetics.

S-GAME is a Chinese developer making its debut on consoles at this scale, and the ambition on display since the game’s first reveal has drawn comparisons to Black Myth: Wukong’s trajectory — a Chinese studio swinging for a global AAA audience with a setting and feel that Western publishers rarely touch. Whether Phantom Blade Zero delivers on that potential becomes clear on 29 October.

Pre-orders go live across the PlayStation Store Singapore, Steam, and the Epic Games Store when the new trailer drops on 11 August at 7 PM PT (12 August, 10 AM SGT). S-GAME has described the 11-minute showcase as covering “new story content, characters, combat, and something unexpected” — substantial enough to qualify as a proper reveal rather than a brief teaser. SGD pricing has not been announced yet and will be confirmed when pre-orders open.

From Delay to Done: A Polish Window That Closed

When we covered the June delay, S-GAME’s reasoning was straightforward: “We do not want to release Phantom Blade Zero knowing there is still an opportunity to take it one step further.” The extra two months appear to have been put to use. The studio is now calling development complete, and the October 29 window looks firm.

What Is Phantom Blade Zero?

Built on Unreal Engine 5, Phantom Blade Zero is a stamina-free action RPG set in a fictional world drawn from Chinese wuxia mythology and the Golden Age of Hong Kong action cinema. You play as Soul, an elite assassin framed for a conspiracy surrounding the murder of The Order’s patriarch, racing against a 66-day countdown in a semi-open world. Combat is built around speed and rhythm: over 30 weapons pair with more than 20 “Phantom Edges” — secondary tools that let you reshape your playstyle without a stamina meter getting in the way.

The cultural DNA is a genuine draw for Singapore and Southeast Asian players. This is a Chinese studio building the wuxia fantasy they’ve always wanted to play, not a Western interpretation of it — and that authenticity comes through in the art direction and animation.

Phantom Blade Zero Pushed to 29 October — What Singapore Gamers Need to Know

Singapore’s PS5 and PC gaming calendar just reshuffled. Phantom Blade Zero, the kung fu action RPG from Chinese studio S-GAME, has been pushed from its original 9 September 2026 date to 29 October 2026 — a 50-day delay confirmed alongside a brand-new Special Teaser trailer that dropped alongside the announcement.

Why S-GAME Delayed Phantom Blade Zero

The studio was direct about the reason: this is a polish delay, not a sign of development trouble. S-GAME identified a final window to raise the game’s visual quality — upgrading character models and reworking environmental textures — without sacrificing the performance targets already locked in. Importantly, the improvements do not lean on ray tracing, keeping the game accessible to a wider range of hardware.

“We do not want to release Phantom Blade Zero knowing there is still an opportunity to take it one step further,” the studio said. “While 50 days cannot change everything, it is enough time to finalize the critical improvements that players will notice the moment they start the game.”

For Singapore gamers, the move also clears a brutal late-September window that already has Marvel’s Wolverine (15 September), Control Resonant (24 September), and Onimusha: Way of the Sword (25 September) competing for attention and wallet space. Landing on 29 October gives Phantom Blade Zero breathing room to be its own event.

What Is Phantom Blade Zero?

If this is your first time hearing about it, here is the quick brief. Phantom Blade Zero is an action RPG built in Unreal Engine 5, set in a “Kung Fu Punk” world that fuses classic wuxia storytelling with kinetic combat that has drawn comparisons to Ninja Gaiden, Sekiro, and Devil May Cry. You play as Soul, a warrior with 66 days to live who must uncover the truth behind his master’s murder.

Combat is stamina-free and built around two primary bladed weapons — each with a “power surge” ultimate ability — plus two secondary Phantom Edges ranging from cannons and lances to axes and hammers. The world is semi-open with interconnected regions and paths that unlock as you gain new weapons and abilities. The pitch: relentless, precise, and spectacularly stylish.

New Teaser Trailer and What’s Still to Come

S-GAME released a new Special Teaser alongside the delay announcement — roughly one minute of footage that shows Soul in full combat flow while, in a striking visual choice, protecting a baby mid-fight. It is the kind of image that crystallises the game’s tone: wildly cinematic but grounded in precise martial arts logic.

There is more to look forward to before launch. S-GAME has confirmed that pre-orders open this summer with a full trailer attached, and a dedicated State of Play deep dive is scheduled for late summer 2026 — covering the world, combat system, exploration, and character progression in detail. If the brief State of Play segment in June already had the community excited, the full showcase should give Singapore gamers everything they need to make a call on day-one.

Phantom Blade Zero launches 29 October 2026 on PlayStation 5 (with a console-exclusive window) and PC via Steam and Epic Games Store. SGD pricing has not been announced yet — that is expected alongside the pre-order opening this summer.

Last Words

A 50-day slip is never great news on paper, but S-GAME’s track record of transparency makes this one easy to accept. The September PS5 schedule was always going to force Singapore gamers into some painful pick-one choices; October 29 clears that crunch and lets Phantom Blade Zero land with the attention it deserves as one of the most visually ambitious Asian-developed action games in years. Mark the date, watch for the summer pre-order trailer, and keep an eye on our gaming news for more updates as they drop.
