Catch Up Before Friday

If you’re joining late, Rising Hope is the 28th season of the Pokémon anime and the third arc following Liko and Roy — the freshest protagonists since Ash hung up his Poké Balls. What is Jimoto Saiko! (地元最高！)?

Before the anime announcement turned heads, Jimoto Saiko! was already a quiet phenomenon in Japan. Creator Usagi launched the manga on X (then Twitter) in February 2021, drawing in readers with its sharp mix of cute character art and genuinely chaotic storytelling. Publisher Saizusha has since compiled it into eight collected volumes — the most recent arrived in August 2025.

The title roughly translates to “Our Hometown is the Best!” and the whole series lives in that tension. The story follows Chanel and her crew of girls who have never left their neighbourhood — a place where violence, poverty, shady operators, and petty crime are ordinary background noise. And yet, they love where they’re from. What Is Witch Hat Atelier?

Kamome Shirahama’s manga has been running in Kodansha’s Monthly Morning Two since 2016 — 15 volumes in and over seven million copies in circulation. It follows Coco, a girl who discovers that magic, which the world treats as a gift only the chosen are born with, can actually be taught. The catch: that knowledge is forbidden. The Knights Moralis, a magical order that enforces a strict division between permitted and forbidden spells, polices the world’s understanding of the craft, and Coco’s discovery puts her on a collision course with that system.

The anime adaptation is produced by BUG FILMS, directed by Ayumu Watanabe, and scored by Yuka Kitamura — the composer behind Elden Ring, Dark Souls III, and Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. If you have played any of those games, you already know the mood she is capable of building. The season opened with a double-episode premiere on 6 April 2026 and has been airing weekly since.

What is Sparks of Tomorrow?

Sparks of Tomorrow is adapted from a light novel by Hiro Yūki, published under Kyoto Animation‘s own KA Esuma Bunko imprint in August 2018. The novel earned an honorable mention at the 8th Kyoto Animation Award in 2017 — so this is a genuinely homegrown KyoAni story, developed in-house from novel to animated screen.

The setting is alternate-history Meiji-era Kyoto, a city permanently blanketed in smoke from the steam engines that power civilization. In this world, electricity was never discovered — it remains little more than a fantasy. Two young people cross paths while chasing a mysterious artifact known as the 20th Century Electrical Catalog, said to hold the blueprint for an electrified future neither of them dared believe possible: Kihachi Sakamoto, a boy hardened by the loss of his brother, and Inako Momokawa, a girl quietly protecting hidden regrets.

The opening theme, “Eureka Evrika” by Luna Goami, was previewed in earlier trailers and has already drawn attention for its sweeping, bittersweet sound.

When and Where to Watch in Singapore

Sparks of Tomorrow streams exclusively on Netflix from 5 July 2026, releasing globally on the same day as its Japanese TV broadcast on Tokyo MX, BS11, ABC TV, and TV Aichi. Singapore fans get it day-and-date with Japan — no regional delay has been announced. Expect weekly episode drops throughout the summer season.
