Firefly Wedding Anime Premieres October 9 — Catch It on Crunchyroll

An assassin with an obsessive heart, a dying noblewoman with nothing left to lose, and a marriage proposal that was never supposed to be sincere — Firefly Wedding (ホタルの嫁入り, Hotaru no Yomeiri) is heading to TV screens on 9 October 2026, and Singapore fans can stream it day-one on Crunchyroll.

The Story: A Killer Who Loves Too Hard

Based on the completed manga by Oreco Tachibana, serialised on Shogakukan’s Ura Sunday website from January 2023 to January 2026, Firefly Wedding is a six-volume dark romance set in Meiji-era Japan. VIZ Media publishes the English edition digitally, so the full source material is already accessible to readers here.

The premise is deceptively simple: Satoko Kirigaya has everything a Meiji noblewoman could want on the surface — wealth, beauty, a name that commands respect. What she keeps hidden is a failing heart and a clock that is running out. When an emotionless assassin named Shinpei Goto is sent to kill her, Satoko makes the only play she has left: she asks him to marry her.

It is not a sincere proposal. But the manga’s tagline says it plainly in Japanese — 「俺、ちょっと愛が重いけど幸せにするよ」 — something along the lines of: “My love might be a little heavy, but I will make you happy.” Shinpei, it turns out, loves with the same intensity he kills.

David Production at the Helm

The adaptation sits in capable hands. David Production — the studio that brought JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure to life across multiple acclaimed seasons — is handling animation. Directing is Takahiro Kamei, best known for the warmly received 2022 Urusei Yatsura remake; series composition falls to Yuko Kakihara (Cells at Work!); and Yukiko Aikei, character designer on Your Lie in April, translates Tachibana’s style to animation.

Music is by NOGRID, with the ending theme, “Yumegokochi”, performed by TOOBOE.

Voice Cast

Lynn voices Satoko Kirigaya — she is known to Singapore anime fans from Black Clover and No Game No Life, among others. Opposite her is Kōki Uchiyama as Shinpei, whose range spans everything from Boku no Hero Academia to the Sword Art Online franchise. Supporting cast includes Kent Itō as Kōtarō Ogawa and the always-distinctive Kenjirō Tsuda as Mitsueda.

Now, PUI PUI Molcar is marking its 5th anniversary with an all-new special — and the news that fans have been waiting for: original creator and director Tomoki Misato (見里朝希) is returning to the director’s chair for the first time since Season 1 aired in early 2021.

Choco’s Birthday Kicks Off the Celebrations

The anniversary special was announced on August 10, 2026 — the in-universe birthday of Choco, the beloved chocolate-brown Molcar. The official teaser visual dropped on the same day, showing Choco peeking over a birthday cake adorned with the series logo and a sparkler — a neat meta-wink from the production team. No air date has been announced yet, but the teaser confirms that Shinei Animation is once again handling production.

Misato’s involvement is the headline. PUI PUI Molcar first aired in January 2021 and immediately became one of those rare anime that transcends its target demographic. Season 3 of Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation is well into its run on Crunchyroll, and the creative team just confirmed that the next chapter of Rudeus’s journey is about to get a lot bigger. Episode 8, kicking off the Chaos Breaker arc on 16 August 2026, is titled “The Flying Fortress” — and a freshly released PV from the official TOHO animation channel proves this arc means business.

What Is the Mushoku Tensei Chaos Breaker Arc?

Picking up from the Ranoa University graduation arc, Rudeus and Nanahoshi are heading somewhere no ordinary mage gets invited: the sky-bound fortress of Perugius Dola, the Armored Dragon King. Perugius is no minor character — he is one of the three legendary heroes who slew the Demon God in the Laplace War four centuries ago, and he has spent the centuries since ruling from a fortress floating high above the clouds.

Nanahoshi brokered the visit as a reward for Rudeus’s help with her teleportation research, dangling the promise of magic knowledge impossible to find anywhere else. What begins as a once-in-a-lifetime expedition turns grim in a hurry: according to the Anime News Network announcement, one member of the group is “struck down by a deadly illness” inside the fortress, forcing Rudeus to confront just how far he’ll go to save a friend’s life.

New Chaos Breaker Arc Cast Members

Today’s announcement confirmed the voice actors stepping into the arc’s key new roles:

  • Rikiya Koyama as Perugius Dola, the Armored Dragon King — the arc’s central figure
  • Ayumi Tsunematsu as Sylvaril of the Void, one of Perugius’s twelve Familiars

When to Watch on Crunchyroll — Singapore Time

A double announcement hit Piccoma on 9 August: Villains Are Destined to Die (悪役のエンディングは死のみ) has concluded its main story at chapter 214, and a TV anime adaptation is now officially confirmed. The announcement came simultaneously via Piccoma Japan’s official X account (Japanese) and was reported by Comic Natalie (Japanese). Singapore fans who have been following Penelope’s survival saga can now go into the finale knowing a screen adaptation is on its way.

Six Years, 214 Chapters, One Impossible Villainess

The series launched on Piccoma in 2020 as an adaptation of Gwon Gyeoeul‘s original web novel, with art by SUOL. The premise is the kind of setup that sounds simple until you’re deep in it: a woman wakes inside a romance game as Penelope, the villainess locked to hard difficulty. The TV anime adaptation is officially greenlit. That is the confirmed fact. At the time of announcement Piccoma has not disclosed a studio, cast, broadcast window, or PV — the news is a green-light, not a production reveal. What Is ONE PIECE DAY ’26?

ONE PIECE DAY is Toei Animation and Shueisha’s yearly fan celebration, combining franchise announcements, voice cast appearances, character polls, card game reveals, and live music under one roof. This year’s event runs across two days — Saturday 22 August and Sunday 23 August — at the Makuhari Messe convention centre in Chiba, Japan. Key segments will stream live and free worldwide via the official ONE PIECE YouTube channel, no ticket or VPN required.

Walpurgisnacht Rising Gets IMAX Release Across 37 Countries

When we covered the main trailer in late June, Walpurgisnacht Rising had a Japan theatrical opening on 28 August and little else. As of yesterday, there is something bigger on the table: IMAX screenings confirmed across 37 countries — making this the first film in the Puella Magi Madoka Magica franchise to receive the IMAX treatment.

37 Countries, One Opening Night

Puella Magi Madoka Magica: The Witch’s Rondo — Walpurgisnacht Rising opens 28 August 2026. Aniplex of America is handling North American distribution, with Aniplex’s international partners covering Europe, parts of Asia-Pacific, and Latin America. The full country list has not been released publicly, but 37 territories is one of the widest simultaneous IMAX rollouts for a Japanese anime theatrical release on record.

The announcement was published on 7 August by Anime News Network and confirmed by Aniplex’s international accounts.

What “IMAX” Actually Means for This Film

It is worth being precise here: Walpurgisnacht Rising was not animated in the full 1.43:1 IMAX native frame ratio. As TechTimes notes, what the IMAX presentation delivers is the enhanced audio system and the laser projection upgrade — the image fills more of the screen than a standard cinema screen, but the aspect ratio remains the film’s original animated dimensions.

For a franchise where Yuki Kajiura’s compositions are arguably as essential as the visuals, the audio upgrade is the more meaningful part of the package. Anyone who has seen a Kajiura-scored film through IMAX’s audio system will know the difference.

Singapore: Watch Closely

As of this writing, Singapore has not been confirmed among the 37 territories. No local cinema announcement has been made by the film’s Southeast Asia distributor. Given the size of the Madoka Magica fanbase here and the breadth of the global rollout, a Singapore listing is plausible — but until a local cinema posts actual screening times, treat this as “monitor” rather than “mark your calendar.”

Japan and US ticket sales are expected to open in the coming days. If a Singapore listing is confirmed, we’ll update. In the meantime, 28 August is less than three weeks away — fans who are serious about catching this theatrically should keep an eye on GV, Shaw, and Cathay listings from next week.

Why This Matters

The original 2011 Madoka Magica TV series ran 12 episodes and became one of the defining anime of the decade. Its theatrical sequel Rebellion (2013) ended on one of the most divisive cliffhangers in the medium’s history and spent 13 years as one of anime’s most-anticipated follow-ups. IMAX distribution signals that Aniplex and its international partners see this as a full theatrical event — not a limited Japan release with an eventual streaming window. What Critics Are Saying

Early notices put the film in the “beautiful but slight” category. Gizmodo called it “an infectiously hopeful magical girl take on a classic,” with praise for the film’s visual sincerity and the emotional charge of its final act. RogerEbert.com was warmer on the animation than the script, landing on “gorgeous but gossamer-thin” — a verdict that seems to reflect the consensus: stunning to look at, lighter on narrative weight than Tezuka’s source material might suggest.

At 111 minutes, the film moves quickly. Viewers coming in without Tezuka knowledge may actually find the emotional beats land more cleanly — the story is clear enough to follow without the baggage of decades of critical discourse around the original manga.

Saaya Kadokura voices Princess Sapphire. Koki Uchiyama — best known to many Singapore anime fans as Tomura Shigaraki in My Hero Academia — plays Velvet. Quick Recap: What Is The Ribbon Hero?

Directed by Yuuki Igarashi in his theatrical feature debut, The Ribbon Hero adapts Osamu Tezuka’s Princess Knight (Ribbon no Kishi) — first serialised in 1953 and widely considered a foundational text for both the magical-girl genre and shōjo manga as a whole. The film reimagines Princess Sapphire of the fallen kingdom Silverland, who washes up in the neighbouring Goldland and fights to shield her adopted home from the same catastrophe that destroyed her own.

The film premiered at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival in June, receiving positive notices for its animation quality. Studio Outline handled the production for Netflix and Twin Engine.

DAN DA DAN ~Occultic Stage~ Opens in Tokyo on 26 August — Full Cast Revealed

DAN DA DAN is coming off the page and onto the stage. 舞台「ダンダダン」～Occultic Stage～ — the manga’s first-ever live theatrical adaptation — opens at Tokyo’s Nippon Seinenkan Hall on 26 August 2026, and with two official PVs already out and an English ticketing site now live, it’s clearly built to reach audiences well beyond Japan.

What Is the DAN DA DAN Stage Play?

Announced on 6 April 2026 to mark the manga’s fifth anniversary on Shōnen Jump+, Occultic Stage covers the opening arc of Yukinobu Tatsu’s manga — the fateful first encounter between sceptic Momo Ayase and occult-obsessed Okarun, and their run-in with the fearsome spirit Turbo Granny. Director Imagine Ito of high-physicality theatre troupe Umebō is helming the production, with original music by Ryō Konishi and choreography by Yuki Noda and suzuyaka. The script is by Shinjiro Kameda, with production supervised by Shueisha.

The second promotional video, the 邂逅編 (“Encounter Arc”), focuses on the story beats anime fans will know well — and shows just how much the production is leaning into the series’ manic energy.

Starting Saturday, 8 August at 8 PM SGT, the studio will live-stream all 413 episodes across every Battle Spirits anime series — non-stop, completely free, on their official YouTube channel. The marathon runs until approximately 15 August. And after the binge, there is a new anime series waiting at the finish line.

The critical detail: this is a live-only broadcast. BN Pictures has confirmed there will be no VOD archive once the stream closes on 15 August. Miss the window, miss it entirely — which makes this a genuinely unmissable event for fans of the card-game franchise. The stream runs on the BN Pictures YouTube channel, with a live chat open throughout so viewers can watch alongside fans across Japan and Asia.

All 11 anime series are included in sequence: Shounen Toppa Bashin, Shounen Gekiha Dan, Brave, Heroes, Sword Eyes, Saikyou Ginga Ultimate Zero, Burning Soul, Double Drive, Saga Brave, Kakumei no Garette, and Mirage. That is nearly a full week of back-to-back Battle Spirits anime at no cost.

The marathon is timed to build momentum for what comes next. A completely new anime, Battle Spirits [Re]: 絶界の空 (Zekkai no Sora) — translated roughly as The Sky at the World’s End — has been announced for TV broadcast in Fall 2026, also produced by BN Pictures.

The setting is a fictionalised historical Japan, placed against the turbulence of the bakumatsu era. Two central figures drive the story: Magami Sora (CV: Kusano Taichi), a boy drawn to the power of Battle Spirits, and the enigmatic, blade-wielding Zetsu (CV: Hamano Daiki). Direction and character design are by Kudo Masafumi; series composition by Nemoto Toshizo. Exactly how deeply the card game itself is woven into the plot is to be confirmed, but BN Pictures has scheduled a further info drop — including more cast, staff, and story details — for 25 August.
