Two of the most beloved JRPGs in Nihon Falcom’s Trails / Kiseki series are about to get a major modern upgrade. The Legend of Heroes: Trails from Zero and The Legend of Heroes: Trails to Azure — the Crossbell Arc duology published in the West by NIS America — launch on PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2 on 10 September 2026. If you’ve been waiting to experience Lloyd Bannings and the Special Support Section on current-gen hardware, the wait ends this Thursday.

What’s New in the PS5 and Switch 2 Versions
These aren’t just straight ports. Both upgraded versions pack a suite of performance enhancements that make the Crossbell Arc feel at home on 2026 hardware:
- 4K resolution and up to 120 frames per second — silky-smooth turn-based combat and exploration
- HD texture overhaul — upscaled visuals with a toggle to switch between original and enhanced textures, great for purists and newcomers alike
- Mouse input on Switch 2 — navigate menus and the city of Crossbell with mouse control, a natural fit for the series’ text-heavy story beats
- High-Speed Mode — customise gameplay pacing for faster grinding and faster story traversal
- Save data carry-over — import your Trails from Zero save into Trails to Azure for alternate dialogue and additional story conversations
The Crossbell Arc — Where It Fits in the Kiseki Series
If you’re new to the Trails universe, the Crossbell duology is the ideal entry point before the Cold Steel arc. Set in the independent city-state of Crossbell — wedged between two powerful rival nations — Trails from Zero follows Lloyd Bannings as he returns home to join the city’s newly formed Special Support Section alongside Elie MacDowell, the feisty granddaughter of the mayor; Randy Orlando, a womanising ex-soldier; and Tio Plato, a teenage tech prodigy.
Trails to Azure picks up months later, when a fragile peace is shattered by new conspiracies that threaten the entire region. It also introduces the Burst mechanic, a Back Attack system, and a customisable combat vehicle that shakes up the battle formula meaningfully. The two games are designed to be played back-to-back, and the save-import feature makes that seamless on PS5 and Switch 2.
Editions, Pricing and What You Get
NIS America is offering three tiers for the 10 September launch:
- Digital Standard — US$39.99 per game (each sold separately on PSN and the Nintendo eShop)
- Physical Deluxe Edition — US$69.99 for both games together, plus a digital soundtrack and a collector’s card set featuring Lloyd, Elie, Randy, Tio and KeA. Note that the Nintendo Switch 2 physical version ships as a game-key card rather than a cartridge, so an internet connection is required to download.
- Limited Edition — US$109.99 via the NIS America online store; this version comes with the collector’s box, the Crossbell’s Collected Works art book, a special soundtrack CD selection, a holographic card set, a Friends of the Force acrylic stand, S.S.S. iron-on insignias, and a pair of Mishelam Wonderland coasters.
Getting It in Singapore
Singapore gamers can grab the digital versions from day one through the PlayStation Store (PS5) or the Nintendo eShop (Switch 2) on their SG accounts — pricing will be shown in SGD on your storefront. For physical copies, NIS America’s releases are primarily distributed in North America, so importing from specialist import retailers is the usual route for Singapore; pre-orders via your preferred import game shop should still be live before Thursday. If you’re on the fence about the series, the digital Standard edition at US$39.99 per game is a low-risk way to dip in — Trails from Zero is the right place to start.
