The wait is over — Code Vein II: Mask of Idris is out today (9 September) on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC, bringing a new post-game story, two new partners and a suite of weapons to Bandai Namco’s anime action RPG. As we covered when the expansion was announced in August, this one is post-game content — but the simultaneously released free Update 2.01 delivers a chunk of new features for every Code Vein II player, DLC or not.
Into the Forsaken World — What the Mask of Idris Expansion Adds
The expansion’s story unfolds in the Forsaken World, a realm born from Temporal Rifts — alternate spaces that branch off from historical turning points altered by the legendary revenant Idris. At its centre churns the Spindle of Pathos, a force drawing emotions across time that threatens to consume the protagonists’ own world.
Two new partners join the roster. Liv Voda is the combative guardian of the Temporal Rift who wields a Halberd and a Formae called Chariot Rave; her support ability, Mad Blood Dance, temporarily boosts your attack power. The second new companion, Lou Magmell, is a different individual from the Lou encountered in the main story, one who entered the Forsaken World after a separate tragedy of their own.

On the weapons side, the expansion adds the Grave Knocker — a martial-arts Formae compatible with all weapon types that emphasises aerial kicks — and the Sword of Karma: Idris, a flame-imbued great sword with extended combo chains. To access the campaign, you’ll need to have reached the Luna Fraterna ending in the main game and completed the sub-mission Valentin’s Request.

Free Update 2.01 — Something for Every Player
Releasing alongside the DLC is Update 2.01, a free patch that applies to everyone regardless of whether you own Mask of Idris. The headlining addition is Trials of Remembrance, a Battle Rush Mode that lets you rematch bosses you’ve already defeated — either solo or in back-to-back continuous chains — with over ninety new customisation parts available as rewards.
Post-game players also get new Age of Harmony episodes — extended partner bonding stories — plus Jadwiga added as a freely recruitable partner. If you’ve been holding off replaying because the game is too demanding, a new Story-Focused Mode makes a gentler playthrough accessible.
Cosmetically, the update adds character shader options (switch between the original rendering and a Legacy anime-style look), expands Photo Mode with 30+ new poses and fresh frames, and on PC introduces NVIDIA DLSS Frame Generation and Reflex support for smoother performance. There are also extensive balance changes — 24 weapon Formae and 14 magic Formae buffed — plus the usual round of bug fixes and AI optimisations.
