After 18 years locked to PS3, Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots is finally playable on modern hardware — and from today, 27 August 2026, you can buy it right here in Singapore. Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2 is out now on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch and PC via Steam, and the critical reception is almost as strong as Naked Snake’s grip.
As we covered when Konami first announced the collection’s launch date, the lineup centres on two titles that never made it out of the PS3 generation on Konami’s own terms.
What’s in Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2?
The collection bundles three titles:
- Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots — the 2008 PS3 epic, now running at native 4K and a locked 60fps with no installation breaks between acts.
- Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker HD Edition — the acclaimed PSP co-op stealth game in full HD, with online multiplayer for up to six players.
- Metal Gear: Ghost Babel — the Game Boy Color spin-off from 2000, rescued from aging handheld hardware.
Extras include a Digital Soundtrack Vol. 2, Screenplay Books, Master Books covering story and characters, and the MGS4 Database. If you own save data from Master Collection Vol. 1, you unlock the Gold Camouflage for Snake in MGS4.
MGS4 at 4K/60fps — 18 Years Was Worth the Wait
The headline feature is MGS4 running without the notorious chapter-end installation pauses that plagued the original PS3 release. Modern solid-state storage means the game loads as it should — and the bump to 4K/60fps makes Snake’s farewell feel entirely new. DualSense haptic feedback is supported on PS5, adding another layer the original hardware never delivered.
What Critics Are Saying
The collection is scoring 83 on OpenCritic (87% of critics recommend) and 85 on Metacritic for the PS5 version. A selection of scores:

- COGconnected — 85/100
- Hobby Consolas — 74/100 (the outlier)
COGconnected’s Jaz Sagoo called it a masterpiece made better: “MGS 4 is without doubt a masterpiece, and this port improves on the original by adding a locked frame rate.” The Games Machine added that “the overall polish proves Konami is serious about preserving Kojima’s legacy,” while PlayStation LifeStyle summed up the value case simply: “If you’re looking for a way to play through two of the franchise’s best entries without emulators or aging hardware, it’s hard to object.”
How Much Is It in Singapore?
On the PlayStation Singapore store, the collection is priced at SGD 55.90. Individual titles are also available separately — MGS4 at SGD 35.60 and Peace Walker at SGD 20.30 — though the bundle works out cheaper if you want both. The global base price is USD 49.99.
On PC, the game is live on Steam now. Switch 2 physical copies should be available at major game retailers and electronics chains in Singapore from today.
Should Singapore Fans Double-Dip from Vol. 1?
If you played through Master Collection Vol. 1 (MGS1, 2, 3 and Snake Eater), this is the natural completion of the set. MGS4 in particular has no legal digital alternative outside a PS3 — it never received a remaster, never made it to PC, and never left Sony’s ecosystem until now. For anyone who grew up with the PS3 era but no longer owns the hardware, this is the only way in.
Peace Walker is also no slouch: the PSP co-op gameplay holds up well in HD, and online multiplayer for up to six players gives it a reason to revisit that solo runs never did. Ghost Babel is a bonus curiosity for series historians.
