Professor Layton: New World of Steam — December 10

After years of waiting and one delay, Professor Layton and the New World of Steam finally has a concrete release date: Level-5 confirmed during the September 9 Nintendo Direct that the puzzle-adventure sequel launches globally on December 10, 2026 — simultaneously on Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, and PC via Steam.

Layton’s First Day on PlayStation

Every mainline Professor Layton game since 2007 has launched exclusively on Nintendo handheld hardware — DS, 3DS, and then Switch. December 10 breaks that tradition entirely. PS5 gets the full game day-one alongside the Switch versions, making this the first time a mainline Layton entry has appeared on a PlayStation platform. For Singapore’s gaming market, that is a significant shift: the PS5 is one of the most popular consoles in the region, and puzzle fans who never picked up a Switch now have a direct route into one of gaming’s most beloved adventure series.

Steam Bison: Layton and Luke Head to the American West

As we reported when the game’s details were first shared, New World of Steam is set in Steam Bison — a frontier town in the American West powered so thoroughly by steam technology that it has reportedly surpassed even London in its rapid development. The story picks up one year after Professor Layton and the Unwound Future. A letter from Luke (now living in America) draws Layton across the Atlantic, and the pair are pulled into a new mystery: a phantom gunslinger terrorising the citizens of Steam Bison.

The Biggest Puzzle Collection in Series History

Level-5 is promising more puzzles than any entry in the franchise’s history — and for a series already known for packing hundreds of challenges into every instalment, that is a meaningful commitment. The puzzle lineup for this entry was developed in collaboration with QuizKnock, a Japanese educational media platform with over 2.34 million YouTube subscribers, headed by Takuji Izawa — known in Japan as the “Quiz King of Tokyo University.” Expect the series’ trademark lateral-thinking, sliding-tile, and observation puzzles in generous numbers, with a Western frontier theme running through the logic.

Singapore Release: Platforms, Timing, and What to Expect

The December 10 launch date is worldwide and simultaneous, so Singapore players will have day-one access on all four platforms — no regional delay expected. No SGD pricing has been confirmed yet; based on comparable Switch 2 and PS5 launches, expect console editions in the SGD 69–79 range at major game retailers and electronics chains. Physical editions have been confirmed for Japan (Switch and Switch 2), with local physical availability depending on regional distribution. Level-5 has not confirmed English voice acting details; the Japanese release uses Yo Oizumi as Professor Layton and Mio Imada as Luke.
