For almost two decades, Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots remained stubbornly marooned on the PlayStation 3 — the only mainline Metal Gear game that never made it anywhere else. That changes on August 27, 2026, when Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2 lands on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam.
What’s Inside Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2
The collection bundles three titles:
- Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots — Snake’s final chapter, originally released on PS3 in June 2008. This is its first-ever appearance on any other platform.
- Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker (HD Collection version) — the PSP tactical espionage game, now with online co-op (2–4 players) and versus modes (up to 6 players online), plus customisable controls.
- Metal Gear: Ghost Babel — a bonus inclusion; the 2000 Game Boy Color title (released in the West as Metal Gear Solid: Ghost Babel), with modern quality-of-life touches including screen filters, pixel-perfect display, and a rewind function.
Performance: 4K 60fps on PS5, 1440p on Switch 2
Konami has confirmed the performance targets across platforms:
- PS5, Xbox Series X, PC: Up to 4K resolution at 60fps for both MGS4 and Peace Walker.
- Nintendo Switch 2 (docked): 1440p at 60fps; in handheld mode, MGS4 runs at 1080p/60fps.
- Xbox Series S: 1440p/60fps.
- Nintendo Switch (original): 30fps cap.
MGS4 itself gains internal resolution improvements, a higher maximum frame rate, and customisable button layouts — a small but meaningful quality-of-life upgrade over the PS3 original. The game’s notoriously long cutscenes are, presumably, still there in their full cinematic glory.
Pre-Order Bonuses and Extra Content
Pre-orders are open now, with two early bonuses: a Cardboard Camouflage for MGS4 and the LOVE BOX uniform for Peace Walker. Players who own Master Collection Vol. 1 unlock additional bonus items — the Gold Camouflage for MGS4 and the GOLD uniform for Peace Walker — via save-data transfer.
The collection also includes screenplay books and master books for both MGS4 and Peace Walker (detailed narrative and character breakdowns), plus a digital soundtrack. A Steam-exclusive bundle pairs Vol. 2 with Vol. 1 and Metal Gear Solid Δ: Snake Eater, though that bundle pricing hasn’t been confirmed separately.
Vol. 2 is priced at USD 49.99 on PS5 (and likely similar across platforms); local Singapore pricing via PSN or Steam may vary. Physical and digital editions are both available. Peace Walker’s online co-op requires a PS Plus subscription on PS5.
MGS4 Out in the Open — At Last
The significance of MGS4’s release here is hard to overstate for long-time fans. Hideo Kojima’s conclusion to Solid Snake’s story has been completely inaccessible to anyone without a working PS3 for almost two decades — no HD port, no backwards compatibility, no PC release. Cutscenes from MGS4 have circulated on YouTube for years, but playing the game itself required either keeping that console alive or importing.
For Singapore gamers who came to the series through MGS3: Snake Eater or later titles, this is the first chance to experience the original saga’s ending in full.
