AFK Journey × Digimon Adventure: The DigiDestined Arrive in Esperia on 18 August

AFK Journey’s next collaboration is with one of anime’s most iconic franchises: Digimon Adventure. Lilith Games is bringing Tai Kamiya, Matt Ishida, and their partner Digimon into the game’s fantasy world of Esperia, with the crossover event going live on 18 August 2026 (UTC).

The event’s setup sees Tai and Matt swept through a dimensional rift and stranded in Esperia, far from the Digital World. They fall in with the Magister — the player’s character — to fight their way home, with Lilith Games framing the crossover as an original story set within AFK Journey’s world rather than a straight retelling. It draws specifically from the original 1999 Digimon Adventure series, leaning into the classic era rather than newer iterations of the franchise.

This marks AFK Journey’s fourth major IP crossover, following previous collaborations that pulled characters from other beloved franchises into Esperia.

Full Digivolution Lines Confirmed

Both partner Digimon will reach their Mega forms, with the complete evolution chains confirmed in official promotional materials.

Agumon evolves through Greymon and MetalGreymon to reach WarGreymon — the Mega form tied to Tai’s Crest of Courage and one of the most recognisable Digimon in the franchise’s history.

Gabumon evolves through Garurumon and WereGarurumon to reach MetalGarurumon — the armoured Mega bonded to Matt’s Crest of Friendship. Seeing both Mega forms in action is part of what made the original series’ climax so memorable, and it looks like Lilith Games is leaning into that.

Whether Digivolution will function as an in-game combat mechanic or primarily as story and cutscene presentation has not been confirmed ahead of the event going live.

Cosmetics and Rewards

Promotional announcements confirm a range of limited cosmetics tied to the crossover: outfits inspired by Tai and Matt, limited hero headgear, and a special collaboration frame. These allow players to dress their roster in DigiDestined style for the duration of the event and beyond.

A complete breakdown of event missions, character acquisition, and summon resources is expected to be detailed at or around launch on 18 August. Past AFK Journey crossovers have included free-to-play portions of the event content, though guest characters have typically been limited-availability acquisitions.

Platforms and When to Play

AFK Journey is available on iOS, Android, and Windows PC. The Digimon Adventure crossover event begins 18 August 2026 (UTC). A second trailer is also live on the official AFK Journey YouTube channel for those wanting more of a look before it drops.

Keep an eye on the official AFK Journey account for reward details closer to launch, or head to GameTrader Game News for more coverage.

Digimon Best Adventure Series Starts 4 October — New 2027 Anime Also Teased

Digimon’s 30th anniversary shifted into gear today with a special broadcast that delivered three things at once: the global fan vote results, a new TV compilation series launching in October, and the confirmation of a brand-new anime for 2027.

Fans Around the World Voted for the Best Episodes of Four Classic Series

Earlier this year, Toei Animation ran a worldwide fan vote asking viewers to select their single favourite episode from four of the franchise’s classic runs. The results, announced today on the official Digimon broadcast special, are as follows:

  • Digimon Adventure — Episode 54: “A New World”
  • Digimon Adventure 02 — Episode 21: “Goodbye, Ken…”
  • Digimon Tamers — Episode 43: “Beelzemon Returns”
  • Digimon Frontier — Episode 50: “Across Time! The Beginning of a New Legend”

These fan-selected episodes read almost like a greatest-hits of Digimon’s emotional highs — the finale of Tai’s original journey, a gut-punch sacrifice episode in 02, Beelzemon’s redemption arc in Tamers, and Frontier’s closing chapter. The vote was open globally, so Singapore fans who weighed in are literally part of this programme.

Bokura ga Eranda Best Adventure Starts Broadcasting 4 October in Japan

The four winning episodes will air as a special compilation anthology titled Bokura ga Eranda Best Adventure (“The Best Adventure We Chose”), produced by Toei Animation in cooperation with WiZ, Bandai, and Fuji Television. It begins its Sunday broadcast run in Japan on 4 October 2026.

The project also reunites the artists behind some of Digimon’s most beloved songs. Ayumi Miyazaki — the voice of “Brave Heart” and countless other Digimon tracks — and Takayoshi Tanimoto — who sang “The Biggest Dreamer” and “Spirits Up!” — both perform for a new theme, written by Hiroshi Yamada and composed by Michihiko Ohta. No international streaming window has been confirmed yet; the classic series themselves are available on Crunchyroll, which is accessible in Singapore, but a specific simulcast for this compilation has not been announced.

A New Digimon TV Anime Is Also Confirmed for 2027

The broadcast special went further: Toei Animation confirmed that a brand-new Digimon TV anime series is currently in production with a 2027 target, following on from Digimon BeatBreak, which has been airing on Fuji TV since October 2025 and is still ongoing. No title, staff, story, or character details were shared — just the confirmation that the franchise is not pausing after BeatBreak wraps.

The original Digital Monster virtual pet launched in 1997, meaning 2027 marks the franchise’s official 30th year. For Singapore fans who first encountered Tai, Agumon, and the Digital World on Cartoon Network or VHS in the late ’990s and early 2000s, the news that the anniversary is being marked with both a nostalgic retrospective and a forward-looking new anime is the best possible combination. We’ll cover the new series the moment more details arrive — check our anime coverage to stay up to date.

Digimon’s DIGIVICE ver.REVIVAL Launches Today in Japan

Today — 1 August 2026 — is Odaiba Memorial Day, the anniversary of when the DigiDestined first arrived in the Digital World. Bandai Namco is marking it in the best way possible: the DIGIVICE ver.REVIVAL is out today in Japan, reviving the iconic LCD handheld toy from the original Digimon Adventure series for the first time since 1999.

What Is the DIGIVICE ver.REVIVAL?

If you grew up in Singapore watching Digimon Adventure and pestering your parents for a Digivice at the toy shop, this one is for you. Released in Japan in July 1999, the original Digivice was a pendulum-style LCD game — you raised a Digimon partner, kept it healthy by swinging the device, and linked up with other Digivice owners to swap HELP requests. It was part virtual pet, part adventure companion, and for a generation of Singapore kids it was the coolest thing on the toy shelf.

The DIGIVICE ver.REVIVAL brings that loop back, pulling content from the full original Digimon Adventure TV run all the way through the 2020 film Digimon Adventure: Last Evolution Kizuna. There are more than 80 Digimon to raise and encounter — partners and rivals alike — and the core pendulum mechanic is intact. The retail price in Japan is ¥4,378 (tax included), roughly US$30.

Two Variants: Taichi or Yamato?

There are two colour variants at launch, each styled after one of the original DigiDestined:

  • Taichi Yagami Colour — the classic orange-and-blue transparent shell with Agumon on boot. If you only owned one Digivice as a kid, it was probably this one.
  • Yamato Ishida Colour — a deep translucent blue with white buttons, Gabumon on the LCD. Yamato’s device always had the colder, sharper look, and this version nails it.

Both variants have identical gameplay and Digimon rosters — the choice is cosmetic. A single CR2032 battery (included) powers the unit and the rated age is 8 and above.

How Singapore Fans Can Pick One Up

The DIGIVICE ver.REVIVAL is going out through general Japanese retail today — it is not a Premium Bandai exclusive — so stock should be broadly available at toy shops and electronics chains across Japan. For Singapore fans, the usual import routes apply: Play-Asia and AmiAmi both stock Bandai toys and frequently ship to Singapore, and proxy/forwarding services (Tenso, Buyee, Remambo) are straightforward options for this size of item.

Closer to home, Singapore’s Zenint — a local Digimon card and collectibles specialist — has both variants listed for pre-order ahead of the international release. Bandai has confirmed an international version is in development, described as a re-work of the existing Ver.Complete build made more accessible for fans outside Japan (likely including English text). Zenint’s listings point to a September–November 2026 window for that release; international pricing has not been confirmed.

If you want the Japanese version now, ¥4,378 per unit is very reasonable for a piece of Digimon history. Both colours are worth considering — the 1999 originals came out at similar price points and dried up fast. For more on upcoming Digimon products and other gaming news, see our latest news.

Digimon Story: Time Stranger Is Now on Nintendo Switch and Switch 2

Bandai Namco’s Digimon RPG Digimon Story: Time Stranger has arrived on Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 today, July 10 — bringing the 1 million-seller that launched on PS5, Xbox, and PC last October to Nintendo fans for the first time.

What Is Digimon Story: Time Stranger?

Time Stranger is a full-scale turn-based RPG built around collecting, raising, and battling more than 450 Digimon. The story follows agents of a group called ADAMAS who are caught up in a world-threatening crisis spanning both the human world and the Digital World: Iliad — with time-travel mechanics woven into the narrative. It is the most ambitious entry in the Digimon Story series since Cyber Sleuth, and a natural next step for fans who played through that duology on Switch years ago.

Switch 2 Performance: Choose Quality or Speed

The Nintendo Switch 2 version ships with two display modes. Quality Mode targets 4K resolution with HDR at up to 30 FPS when docked (Full HD at up to 30 FPS in handheld), while Performance Mode runs at Full HD and up to 60 FPS in both docked and handheld play. The original Switch version does not get these modes, but the jump from PS5 or Xbox to Switch 2 is notably smoother than it would have been on base hardware. The port is handled by h.a.n.d., Inc., the same studio behind several other well-regarded Switch conversions.

Free Update Adds New Character Mode and Photo Mode

A free update launching alongside the Switch versions adds several quality-of-life features to all platforms. The headline addition is the Terriermon Assistant — a new playable character mode unlocked via a Mode Change from Terriermon. Also included are a Photo Mode for field sequences, a new screen in Digifarm to check Digivolution conditions at a glance, and Switch 2-exclusive graphics options. Several bug fixes round out the patch, including a progression fix for the “God of Speed’s Wish” mission.

Demo, DLC, and Pricing

A free demo is available now on Switch and Switch 2, covering the opening chapter with save data that carries over to the full game — a good way for Singapore fans to test the performance modes before committing. Three editions are available: Standard, Digital Deluxe (includes Season Pass), and Digital Ultimate. The Season Pass covers three DLC packs releasing weekly from July 16, each adding five new Digimon and a new story episode.

On Steam, Time Stranger is currently S$45.54 (43% off from S$79.90 — check Steam for the current price). On the Nintendo eShop the Standard Edition is listed at US$59.99. Singapore fans can also pick it up at major game retailers and electronics chains carrying Nintendo Switch 2 titles.

With Cyber Sleuth still fondly remembered by the Switch community here, Time Stranger arriving with 4K support and a healthy DLC roadmap makes this a solid pick for Digimon fans who held out for Nintendo hardware. Check out more RPG and Nintendo news at our Game News section.

Digimon UP: Free Monster-Raising RPG Drops 15 July

Your next Digimon partner is five days away. Digimon UP, a free-to-play monster-raising RPG from Bandai Namco Entertainment, launches globally on 15 July 2026 for iOS and Android — and the 1,000,000-pre-registration milestone has already been hit, meaning everyone who downloads the game gets Taichi Yagami and Agumon from the classic Digimon Adventure series as a free reward from day one.

Choose Your Starter from 15 Rookie Digimon

When you first boot up Digimon UP, you create a custom Tamer avatar and then select your first Partner Digimon from 15 Rookie-level options. The game has confirmed 24 Digimon with new pixel-art designs across the roster — a mix of fan favourites spanning multiple generations of the franchise, from the original Digimon Adventure crew to later series. Agumon, Gabumon, Guilmon, Veemon, Renamon, Terriermon, and Gatomon are all in, alongside less-expected picks like Bakemon, Numemon, and Gekkomon.

Raise from Digi Egg All the Way to Mega

The core loop follows the original Digimon virtual-pet spirit: your Partner hatches from a Digi Egg and you feed it, train it, and keep it fighting through Digivolution stages — In-Training, Rookie, Champion, Ultimate, and finally Mega. Feeding uses Digi-Meat, which gives random stat boosts, while each training activity targets specific attributes. The game also has a Support Digimon system that layers additional fan-favourite creatures alongside your main Partner without replacing them, giving you more flexibility in how you build your team.

Equippable skill cards add another dimension to battles, and the game references integration with physical Digivice devices and the Digimon Trading Card Game — though the specifics of how those mechanics work in-game have not yet been detailed by Bandai Namco.

Pre-Registration Milestone Means Free Tai and Agumon

The community crossed the 1,000,000 pre-registration mark before launch, which unlocks the top reward tier. Anyone who downloads Digimon UP on day one or later will receive Taichi Yagami and Agumon from Digimon Adventure as Support characters — no additional purchase needed. Earlier milestone rewards including Bits, Summon Tickets, and Numemon as a free partner are also stacking up for all players at launch.

Playing Digimon UP in Singapore

Digimon UP is free to download on the App Store and Google Play globally — Singapore should be part of the main 15 July rollout, but check your regional app store if the game is not appearing on launch day as some regions are on a 28 July schedule. The game includes in-game currency (DigiEmeralds) for premium purchases, but the base experience and all the Digimon on the standard roster are free.

For fans who grew up watching Digimon Adventure on weekend mornings in Singapore, the pixel-art aesthetic and partner-raising loop feel like a deliberate love letter to the original virtual-pet era. Keep an eye on the GameTrader.SG game news page for coverage once the servers go live.

Digimon Story: Time Stranger Launches on Switch 2 and Switch — 10 July Worldwide

Singapore Digimon fans, the wait is almost up. Digimon Story: Time Stranger — Bandai Namco’s sprawling 450-Digimon RPG that launched on PS5, Xbox, and PC back in October 2025 — arrives on Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch on 10 July 2026, with a worldwide simultaneous release. No waiting around for an Asian date; Singapore players get it at the same time as everyone else.

What Switch 2 Gets That Switch Doesn’t

The Switch 2 version is more than a straight port. Bandai Namco built in two dedicated performance modes for Nintendo’s new hardware:

  • Quality Mode: 4K HDR at up to 30fps when docked, Full HD at 30fps in handheld
  • Performance Mode: Up to 60fps both docked and in handheld

The original Switch version runs in standard Switch resolution, making the Switch 2 release the definitive portable version if you’ve already upgraded. Both versions share save data, so if you started on PS5 or PC you’ll need a fresh run on Switch — but the full story is worth it.

450 Digimon, One Big Story

For newcomers: Digimon Story: Time Stranger is set across the human world and the Digital World, following a story about time fractures that are pulling both worlds apart. It leans into the classic Digimon Story RPG format — turn-based strategic battles, a deep DigiBank of over 450 collectible Digimon, and evolution chains you can customise across dozens of paths. The game has already shipped over one million copies across PS5, Xbox, and Steam since launch, proving that the Digimon RPG formula still has a strong audience.

Digimon has always punched above its weight in Southeast Asia. For a generation of Singapore gamers who grew up with the anime on TV and the toys in hand, a new entry in the Story RPG series is a genuine occasion.

Major DLC Coming in 2027

At DIGIMON CON 2026, Bandai Namco announced a major expansion DLC for Time Stranger, targeting a 2027 release. No specifics on content or scope were shared yet, but it’s the first confirmed post-launch content for the game. Players who pick up the Deluxe Edition at launch get a Season Pass that covers DLC when it arrives. The Ultimate Edition bundles extra in-game content on top of the Season Pass.

The Story: Two Worlds on the Brink

You play as an ADAMAS agent investigating digital anomalies. During a routine operation in Shinjuku, you witness the “Shinjuku Inferno” — an all-out war between Digimon — and get hurled eight years into the past. From there you must prevent the collapse of both the human world and the Digital World, building bonds with over 450 Digimon along the way through turn-based combat and a Digifarm where you raise and evolve your partners.

Switch 2 Performance: Two Modes to Choose From

The original Nintendo Switch version runs at 1080p docked and 720p handheld at 30fps. For Switch 2 owners who already own the original Switch version, note that save data is not compatible between the two editions — they are sold separately.

Digimon Story: Time Stranger Arrives on Switch and Switch 2 on 10 July

After racking up over one million copies sold on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC since its October 2025 launch, Bandai Namco’s monster-taming JRPG Digimon Story: Time Stranger is arriving on Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 on 10 July 2026 — just eight days away. If you missed it on consoles last year, this is your chance to jump in on portable hardware.

What Is Digimon Story: Time Stranger?

Developed by Media.Vision and ported to Nintendo platforms by h.a.n.d., Digimon Story: Time Stranger is a turn-based RPG built around the bond between humans and their digital partners. You play a protagonist mysteriously sent eight years into the past, tasked with preventing the collapse of both worlds. The adventure spans the human world and Digital World: Iliad, where you collect, raise, and evolve more than 450 Digimon across strategic battles and a sprawling interconnected story.

The game earned strong reviews at launch for its depth of creature collection and a genuinely gripping narrative — qualities that translate well to handheld play. Owners of the original Switch 1 disc or digital copy will receive the Switch 2 version upgrade free via an automatic update.

Switch 2 Gets 4K Quality Mode and 60fps Performance Mode

The Nintendo Switch 2 version ships with two technical modes not available on original Switch hardware:

  • Quality Mode: 4K HDR at up to 30fps when docked; Full HD at up to 30fps in handheld. HDR is exclusive to this mode.
  • Performance Mode: Full HD at up to 60fps in both docked and handheld configurations.

Original Switch players get a solid experience at 1080p, but the Switch 2 improvements are meaningful — especially in docked 4K mode for the detailed Digimon designs.
