What Is ONE PIECE DAY ’26?

ONE PIECE DAY is Toei Animation and Shueisha’s yearly fan celebration, combining franchise announcements, voice cast appearances, character polls, card game reveals, and live music under one roof. This year’s event runs across two days — Saturday 22 August and Sunday 23 August — at the Makuhari Messe convention centre in Chiba, Japan. Key segments will stream live and free worldwide via the official ONE PIECE YouTube channel, no ticket or VPN required.

Day 1 — Premium Eve (22 August, stream starts 17:15 SGT)

The first broadcast runs from 17:15 to roughly 18:45 SGT and is dedicated almost entirely to one thing: the 2nd Global ONE PIECE Character Popularity Poll World Top 100. Characters ranked 100 to 31 will be revealed live on stage. Midterm results had Luffy, Zoro, and Sanji locked in the top three — whether that order holds when the full results drop is what every fan will be arguing about on Sunday morning.

Day 2 — Main Event (23 August, stream starts 09:30 SGT)

  • 09:40 SGT — Character Popularity Poll Top 30: The remaining ranked characters, including the all-important Number 1, are revealed.
  • 10:40 SGT — Franchise News Segments: Two back-to-back news windows on the official schedule, where major ONE PIECE announcements — including updates on upcoming projects — will be made.
  • 11:40 SGT — ONE PIECE Card Game Panel: A new Kaido card illustrated by Keisuke Itagaki (known for Baki) has already been confirmed for this panel. Further card game announcements are expected.
  • 13:10 SGT — Elbaph Arc Voice Cast Panel: Mayumi Tanaka (Luffy), Kazuya Nakai (Zoro), Akemi Okamura (Nami), and new voice actors joining for the Elbaph arc’s cast appear together in a dedicated panel.

How to Watch from Singapore

Both days stream live on the ONE PIECE Official ENG YouTube channel. The Premium Eve on Saturday (17:15 SGT) is the friendlier timeslot for Singapore fans — a weekend evening watch party. Sunday’s main event starts at 09:30 SGT, which is early but very doable for a weekend morning.

Sessions are expected to be archived after the broadcast, but given how fast character poll spoilers travel on social media, catching the poll reveal live is strongly recommended if you care about the results landing unspoiled. The wait is finally over — One Piece Chapter 1190 goes live tonight at 10 PM SGT (Sunday, 9 August) on MANGA Plus, Viz Media, and Shonen Jump+. After back-to-back breaks stretched the gap to nearly two weeks, the Elbaph arc resumes with what fan translators are calling “One Whose Death Is Celebrated” — and the official title should follow when the chapter drops. Heads up to SG fans: catch it tonight, because the next issue isn’t coming until 23 August.

Two Breaks, One Big Return

Chapter 1189 landed on 26 July 2026 and then things went quiet. First, Eiichiro Oda took a personal break — par for the course for the most ambitious manga in publishing. That gave us Chapter 1190 on 9 August in the WSJ Double Issue #37-38. But the very next week (16 August) brings a magazine-wide Obon Festival break that affects every title in Weekly Shonen Jump — not an Oda-specific rest, just Japan’s summer holiday season shutting things down for a week.

The official and free option for Singapore readers is MANGA Plus by Shueisha, which puts new chapters up simultaneously with the Japanese release — no paywall, just ads. Shonen Jump Print Copies Fall Below 1 Million — A First in History

Weekly Shōnen Jump has crossed a threshold that once seemed unthinkable: for the first time since Japan’s print-circulation records began, the most famous manga magazine in the world averaged fewer than one million copies in a single quarter. According to Anime News Network’s report today, citing certified data from the Japan Magazine Publishers Association, the April–June 2026 average came in at 985,000 printed copies — and it is not just Jump that has crossed the line. As Nikkei reported (Japanese) alongside the same data, there is now no print magazine in Japan — across any category — that still prints over one million copies. Jump was the last one standing.

From 6.53 Million to Under a Million

The numbers tell a story of relentless structural decline. Weekly Shōnen Jump, published by Shueisha since 1968, hit its all-time peak with 6.53 million copies per week in the New Year 1995 issue — a figure so dominant that the magazine had a total readership of 18 million people in Japan at the time. By 2017 it had slipped below two million. By the early 2020s it was hovering around 1.3–1.6 million. The Q2 2026 figure of 985,000 completes what has been a three-decade-long contraction.

For context, the rest of Japan’s major weekly manga publications are even further along the same path. Weekly Shōnen Magazine (Kodansha) now averages 281,000 copies; Weekly Shōnen Sunday (Shogakukan) sits at 120,000; and the monthly CoroCoro Comic — still Japan’s Pokémon magazine of record — comes in at 213,000. None of those are new struggles, but Jump reaching the same sub-million territory is the milestone that closes the chapter on Japan’s print-magazine boom era.

What Is Still Running in Jump Right Now

None of this means the magazine is going away, or that its best titles are disappearing. Weekly Shōnen Jump’s current serialisation list remains one of the strongest in manga: Eiichiro Oda’s One Piece is approaching its final arc; Yoshihiro Togashi’s Hunter × Hunter is in an active run; Yuto Suzuki’s Sakamoto Days — whose cover art appears on recent issues — is one of the breakout action hits of the past five years; and newer series like Takeru Hokazono’s Kagurabachi and Boichi’s The Marshal King have built substantial global fanbases without a single printed copy needing to change hands.

That last point matters. A huge share of Jump’s actual readership never buys a physical copy at all — and never has. The magazine’s Manga Plus platform, which simulpublishes chapters globally for free on the day they drop in Japan, has become one of the most popular manga platforms in Southeast Asia. Singapore fans in particular have been reading Jump titles through Manga Plus since it launched in 2019 without needing to track down an import issue at Kinokuniya. VIZ Media’s digital Shonen Jump subscription covers the Western audience on the same schedule.

Print Is Down; the Manga Is Not

The picture that emerges is not of a magazine dying, but of a distribution format completing a very long transition. The stories and the readership are intact — the ink-on-paper pipeline is not. Shueisha knows this: the company has invested heavily in Manga Plus as a global free-to-read channel, and titles like Kagurabachi and The Marshal King are clearly built with an international digital audience in mind from day one.

For Singapore manga fans, the practical reality hasn’t shifted much — most of us have been reading manga on our phones for years. But there is something still worth pausing for in this number. The magazine that introduced the world to Dragon Ball, Naruto, Bleach, and One Piece once printed 6.53 million copies in a single week. On 6 August 2026, for the first time, it printed fewer than one million.

The official annual fan celebration for Eiichiro Oda’s flagship series will stream live on YouTube on 22–23 August 2026, open to viewers worldwide at no cost. What Is One Piece Day?

One Piece Day is an annual event held around Eiichiro Oda’s birthday (January 1) and the series’ anniversary. It typically features fan-voted segment results, major franchise announcements, voice cast appearances, and a live concert. Previous editions were Japan-only or had limited international access. The ’26 edition is the first to be officially promoted as a global YouTube stream.

Day 1 — Saturday, 22 August 2026

5:15 PM SGT: Stream begins. The opening segment covers fan poll results for characters ranked 100–31, with live commentary.

One of the most feared names in One Piece history has finally found its way onto cardboard. Bandai has revealed that Rocks D. Xebec — the pirate so dangerous the World Government erased him from the history books — will make his One Piece Card Game debut in OP-17: The World’s Strongest Warriors, alongside a stunning guest-art collaboration with Baki creator Keisuke Itagaki. Rocks D. Xebec Finally Joins the One Piece Card Game

The Rocks Pirates’ legendary captain has never appeared in the card game — until now. Rocks D. Xebec enters OP-17 as a Secret Rare (OP17-118 SEC) with a formidable 12,000 power and a block X Rocks Pirates affiliation. His on-play ability lets you draw a card and then deploy up to two different Rocks Pirates characters from your hand, provided their combined cost does not exceed 9. He also receives a Manga Rare treatment — part of OP-17’s brand-new Manga Rare rarity tier, which is making its first appearance in the game.

Rocks holds the distinction of being the one pirate who united Kaido, Big Mom, and Whitebeard under a single flag — long before their names were spoken with fear across the Grand Line. The Elbaph arc currently airing has begun pulling those threads back into focus, which makes his card debut feel particularly well-timed.

Baki Creator Keisuke Itagaki Illustrates Kaido — OP17-062 SR

Alongside the Rocks reveal, Bandai confirmed that Keisuke Itagaki — the mangaka behind the Baki franchise — has created an exclusive illustration of Kaido for the set. The resulting card (OP17-062 SR, titled “The Strongest Creature”) applies Itagaki’s trademark raw, anatomy-heavy linework to Kaido’s face mid-roar, in a composition that reads unmistakably like a page from Baki Dou. The name “KEISUKE ITAGAKI” is printed vertically into the card border as a permanent guest credit.

This follows the precedent set when Jujutsu Kaisen creator Gege Akutami illustrated the Five Elders cards, cementing guest manga-artist collaborations as a recurring headline of the One Piece Card Game. Two of the biggest names in brutal, power-focused manga have now contributed art to the game — and the card community has responded warmly both times.

OP-17 Set Breakdown: New Rarities, 131 Card Types, Elbaph Theme

OP-17 is the game’s 4th Anniversary set, themed around the Elbaph arc and the Four Emperors. It introduces two new rarity types at once: Manga Leaders and Manga Rares (both firsts for the game), plus the new Pirates Super Parallel rarity, which debuts with special versions of Monkey D. Luffy and Rocks D. Xebec. The full set contains 131+4 types in total — 6 Leaders, 45 Commons, 30 Uncommons, 26 Rares, 10 Super Rares, 2 Secret Rares, 6 Special cards, and 1 Treasure Rare. Starter decks confirmed for the wave include Monkey D. Luffy, Roronoa Zoro, Kuzan, Charlotte Katakuri, Sabo, and Eustass “Captain” Kid.

OP-17 releases in Japan on 22 August 2026, with the English-language wide release on 28 August 2026 — the same date for Singapore, North America, and Europe. One Piece Chapter 1189 — Scopper Gaban Saves Luffy as Imu Wields the Weapons of the 19 Kings

Spoilers ahead for One Piece Chapter 1189. The chapter, titled King of the World, is out now on MangaPlus and Viz Manga — free to read for Singapore fans on MangaPlus with a catch-up from last week’s chapter 1188. And it delivers one of the biggest moments the Elbaf arc has built towards.

Imu Escalates — The Ancient Weapons of 800 Years Ago

Picking up mid-battle, Imu presses the offensive against a helpless Luffy. The World Government’s shadowy ruler is not fighting with ordinary strength — each weapon deployed belongs to one of the 19 Kings who founded the World Government 800 years ago, relics of the Void Century now wielded in person. Chapter 1189 names three of them: the Spear of Holy Command (Longinus), the Sword of Wrath (Gram), and the Sea God Sword (Fragarach). Imu uses these to literally pin Luffy to a tree, the blades draining life energy as they hold him in place.

To twist the knife further, Imu mocks Luffy by name-dropping his fallen brothers Ace and Sabo — a deliberate psychological blow at the Straw Hat captain who has already lost so much. A flashback to Shanks warning Loki that the "King of the World" possesses undefeatable power underlines just how outmatched Luffy currently appears.

Scopper Gaban Arrives — Still Bandaged, Axes in Hand

With Imu raising the Xingtian Axe for the killing blow, the chapter’s final pages deliver the moment fans have been waiting for: Scopper Gaban steps in front of Luffy and blocks the attack. He is still wrapped in bandages from injuries suffered earlier in the arc, but both axes are drawn and his expression is calm. One Piece goes on break next week — so this is the cliffhanger we sit with for two weeks.

Gaban, one of Gold Roger’s original crewmates and among the most anticipated characters to see in action in the modern era, has been circling the margins of the Elbaf arc since his reintroduction. The anime already gave Singapore viewers a first taste of the character in Episode 1169. Now the manga is delivering the real showdown.

The Rest of the Chapter

Chapter 1189 checks in on several other threads. Zoro and Sanji remain overpowered by the enhanced Holy Knights, with no clear path to victory shown yet. Usopp gets a moment of sharp instinct — he senses that something has gone terribly wrong for Luffy, even from a distance. And Gunko remains unconscious, the melted ice around her buying some time but no resolution.

The cover story is a lighter touch: Nami is lecturing a trio of monkey-transformed crewmates — Luffy, Zoro, and Sanji — which is exactly the kind of absurd One Piece side-story energy the main chapters often pair with the heaviest plot beats.

LEGO One Piece Hits Netflix on 29 September — Live-Action Cast Returns as Voice Stars

The Straw Hats are getting bricked up — and the entire Netflix live-action cast is coming along for the adventure. Netflix has dropped the official teaser trailer for LEGO One Piece, a two-part animated special arriving exclusively on Netflix on 29 September 2026. If you’ve been missing Iñaki Godoy, Mackenyu, and the rest of the crew, this is your next Straw Hat fix — only now everybody’s made of plastic.

What Is LEGO One Piece?

LEGO One Piece is a two-part original net animation (ONA) produced through a partnership between The LEGO Group, Japanese publisher Shueisha, and Vancouver-based animation studio Atomic Cartoons, with series creator Eiichiro Oda serving as Executive Producer. The special is directed by Chelsea Ker and written by Tom Hyndman, who also serves as Executive Producer.

The premise is built around Usopp — the crew’s most reliably unreliable narrator — recounting the Straw Hats’ early voyages across the East Blue and into the Grand Line to a wide-eyed Tony Tony Chopper. Naturally, Usopp’s retelling takes some creative liberties, and the other crewmates are quick to call him out on it. As Hyndman explained in an interview with CBR, the team wanted something that would “ease new viewers into the massive world of One Piece while also giving longtime fans a new, fun perspective.”

The Full Live-Action Cast Is Back

One of the biggest draws here is the voice cast: every actor from the Netflix live-action adaptation reprises their role for the special. That means:

Brick-Built Sets for the Superfans

Alongside the Netflix special, the announcement showcased physical LEGO One Piece building sets covering key arcs from the East Blue saga. Spotted in official imagery: a detailed Baratie set complete with the restaurant ship and accompanying pirate dinghy, a Marine vessel flying the 海軍 HQ3 flag, Dr. Kureha’s Drum Rock laboratory with Chopper and Kureha minifigs, and Buggy the Clown’s Big Top complete with the fearsome Clown Pirate leader himself.

Pricing and release timelines for the physical sets have not been confirmed at the time of writing. Singapore fans should keep an eye on major game and toy retailers for local availability — import options will be worth tracking if a local launch is not announced soon.

When and Where to Watch in Singapore

LEGO One Piece streams exclusively on Netflix globally, which means Singapore subscribers can catch both parts from 29 September 2026 — the same day as the rest of the world. There’s no region-lock or staggered release to worry about here.

If you want to revisit the live-action source material before September, Seasons 1 and 2 of Netflix’s One Piece are streaming now. The LEGO special covers both those seasons, so binge or rewatch is fair game.

Jump Festa 2027 Set for 19–20 December at Makuhari Messe

Singapore anime fans, mark your calendars. Shueisha has officially confirmed that Jump Festa 2027 will be held on 19–20 December 2026 at Makuhari Messe International Exhibition Hall in Chiba, Japan. Doors open at 9:00 AM and last entry is at 4:30 PM both days — and if the past couple of years are any guide, it is going to be one of the biggest weekends in manga and anime this year.

The announcement was published by Famitsu (Japanese) today and is the first official word from Shueisha on dates for the 2027 edition. A dedicated JF2027 page on the official Jump Festa website is expected to follow closer to the event.

What is Jump Festa?

Jump Festa is Shueisha’s annual mega-event, jointly hosted by five of Japan’s biggest manga magazines — Weekly Shonen Jump, Shonen Jump+, V Jump, Jump SQ., and Saikyō Jump. Every December it takes over Makuhari Messe — the same sprawling convention complex that hosts Tokyo Game Show — with franchise stage shows, world-premiere trailers, voice-actor appearances, exclusive merch, and enough announcement firepower to keep the anime internet buzzing for weeks.

JF2027 will occupy Halls 1–9 and Hall 11, keeping the expanded footprint that the event has used since 2026.

What to Expect in December

Shueisha hasn’t confirmed the franchise lineup for JF2027 yet — that information typically drops through individual Jump magazine announcements and the official JF website in the months leading up to the event. But based on what’s currently airing and in production, Singapore fans will almost certainly be watching for news on:

  • Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba — Infinity Castle Part 2, with the first film having already become a generational event for SG fans
  • Dragon Ball Super: The Galactic Patrol, which has been teased in Jump magazines
  • Kagurabachi and Sakamoto Days, two of the hottest ongoing Shonen Jump manga currently in production as anime
  • One Piece — always a centrepiece of Jump Festa — now deep into the Elbaph arc
  • Haikyu!! theatrical releases

What Jump Festa 2026 Delivered

Jump Festa 2026 (held December 20–21, 2025 at Makuhari Messe) set a high bar. Alongside the announcements above, Shueisha used the event to drop a first trailer for the fourth and final arc of Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War, confirm the Elbaph arc premiere date for One Piece, and reveal a Dan Da Dan Season 3 key visual. The main Jump Super Stage was livestreamed globally — Singapore fans watching from home at 9 AM were refreshing their feeds just as fast as fans queuing at Chiba.

Shueisha has confirmed all three stages — Jump Super Stage, Jump Studio, and Jump Station — will return for 2027, though a full schedule and performer lineup will only be revealed later in the year.

Planning Your December Trip from Singapore

December 19–20 sits right at the start of Singapore’s year-end school holidays, which makes it a realistic travel window for families and students alike. Makuhari Messe is in Chiba — roughly 30 minutes from central Tokyo on the JR Keiyo Line — so it pairs naturally with a wider Japan year-end trip.

Singapore Airlines, Scoot, and Jetstar all fly direct Singapore to Tokyo (Narita or Haneda). Narita is marginally closer to Makuhari Messe via the JR Sobu Line or Keisei Skyliner connection. Accommodation in the Makuhari area books out fast for Jump Festa weekend, so if you are seriously considering attending in person, now is not too early to start watching flight and hotel prices.

Last week’s Episode 1169 — “The Legend Lurking in Elbaph: The Identity of the Mountain-Eater” — was a slow-burn that paid off hard in its final minutes. As the Straw Hats searched a sacred throne room on Elbaf for the key to Prince Loki’s chains, a cheerful local who called himself “Mr. Ya” stepped forward to help. He then revealed himself as Scopper Gaban, a member of the Roger Pirates and one of the handful of people who ever sailed to Laughtale. Rather than simply handing over the key, Gaban challenged Luffy to take it by force — setting up tonight’s episode perfectly.

Scopper Gaban holds near-mythic status in One Piece lore. As a member of Gol D. Roger’s crew he was regarded as Silvers Rayleigh’s equal in combat, a warrior so feared he earned the nickname “Mountain-Eater” — after single-handedly cutting down every tree on a mountainside to protect Roger from a pirate army. When the Roger Pirates disbanded he drifted to Elbaf, married a giant woman named Ripley, and fathered a son, Colon. He has lived quietly there for twenty years, hidden in plain sight among the giants.

His weapon of choice is a pair of heavy axes, backed by advanced Haki. No Devil Fruit, no tricks — just raw power refined during the era when Roger’s crew was the most dangerous on the seas. In terms of sheer combat pedigree, Luffy has arguably never faced anyone with deeper roots in the story of the One Piece itself.

What to Expect from Episode 1170

The official preview from Toei Animation confirms both Luffy and Zoro are drawn into the confrontation. Gaban is not a villain — he is a gatekeeper who wants to know whether Luffy has what it takes to be a worthy successor to Roger’s will. That framing makes the fight as emotionally loaded as it is action-packed: the current king of the pirates-in-waiting, facing down a living legend from the age that set everything in motion. The preview imagery of axes and Haki suggests a clash that will test Luffy’s growth since his training with Rayleigh, and Zoro’s presence hints the fight will escalate well beyond a simple one-on-one.
