Kirby and the World Beyond Revealed — Switch 2, Spring 2027

Nintendo closed the September 9 Direct with a big swing: Kirby and the World Beyond, developed by HAL Laboratory, is coming to Nintendo Switch 2 in Spring 2027 — landing right in time for the Kirby series’ 35th anniversary year.

The Sky Has a Ceiling — and Kirby Just Broke Through It

The reveal trailer opens on familiar Dream Land scenery before cracks appear in the sky. It is a Truman Show moment: the blue above is a shell, not a real sky, and something lies beyond it. With King Dedede’s help, Kirby punches clean through and tumbles into the titular World Beyond — a sprawling patchwork of new environments unlike anything in the series’ history.

What immediately stands out is the structure. Kirby and the Forgotten Land (2022) used a world-hub with discrete linear levels. The World Beyond looks to open things up considerably: the camera is fully rotatable, and the footage shows Kirby traversing wide open zones with visible depth and interconnected paths — a proper open-zone layout that lets players roam rather than march forward level by level.

New Companion, Returning Copy Abilities — and a Massive Sword

Kirby does not explore the World Beyond alone. The trailer introduces a new cheerful blue-and-purple floating companion — a brand-new character — who accompanies the pink hero across the unfamiliar terrain. Classic Copy Abilities return in force: Sword Kirby appears early and cuts impressively large, while Super Abilities — the screen-clearing power-ups from games like Kirby’s Return to Dream Land — are back, shown here as a crackling arc of teal energy that sweeps an entire battlefield.

Environmental destruction is in the mix too. Kirby can demolish sections of the landscape, pointing to a world that reacts to player input in more dynamic ways than the linear levels of recent entries. The pacing in the trailer looks faster and more action-oriented than Forgotten Land.

Kirby’s 35th Anniversary — Why Spring 2027 Is the Perfect Window

The Kirby franchise launched with Kirby’s Dream Land on Game Boy in April 1992, making Spring 2027 precisely anniversary territory. HAL Laboratory saved this reveal for the Direct’s closing slot — a sign of confidence — and the high-production footage suggests The World Beyond is the studio’s major statement for the year rather than a smaller spin-off.

For Switch 2 owners in Singapore and across SEA, this rounds out a stacked early-2027 Nintendo window: Metroid Ravenous arrives January 28, and Kirby and the World Beyond is likely to follow in March or April. SGD pricing on the Nintendo eShop has not been announced; keep an eye on our Game News section for local details when Nintendo Singapore confirms them.
