A Billion-Dollar Blockbuster Returns

When The Super Mario Galaxy Movie hit theatres in April 2026, it quickly established itself as a phenomenon. Domestically in Japan alone, it grossed ¥7.9 billion — a remarkable figure for an animated co-production — while the worldwide total surpassed US$1 billion. The film follows Mario, Luigi, Yoshi, Toad, and Rosalina as they travel beyond the Mushroom Kingdom into the cosmos to confront a galactic threat from Bowser, voiced with scene-stealing menace by Jack Black.

The Steelbook — Designed for Display

The Steelbook edition is the standout pick for collectors. Rather than the main cast key art used on the standard cover, the Steelbook wears a deep brown leather-look finish embossed with a Power Star motif — very much in the spirit of a Grandmaster Galaxy prize. Open it up and the inside panel reveals a twilight-hued galactic vista with a castle perched on a floating rock, a genuinely striking piece of shelf art. Two discs (the 4K UHD and a Blu-ray copy) sit neatly inside.

Rosalina, Bowser, and What Made This Film Land

Beyond the nostalgia factor, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie earned its box office through character work that surprised many viewers. Rosalina — silent and regal in the games — gets a full arc here, while Bowser’s redesign as a galaxy-conquering sorcerer with glowing lightning bolt armour turned the character into a genuine screen villain rather than a comedy punchline. Singapore Fans: What Are Your Options?

The movie screened at Golden Village cinemas in Singapore when it released in April 2026. If you want to own it digitally, English-language editions have been available on global storefronts — Apple TV, Google Play Movies, and similar services — since May 2026. The Japan-market digital release that begins today is tailored to Japanese storefronts and will carry Japanese-language pricing.

For physical media, the Japan Blu-ray releasing October 16 is importable. Co-productions like this almost always carry the original English audio track alongside the Japanese dub on Japanese releases, so import copies should be fully watchable. The Power Star Steelbook in particular is a strong shelf piece — and at ¥8,690 (roughly S$80–85 at current rates), it is priced competitively against domestic premium editions. What BEAMS Brought to the Galaxy

The collection takes the vibrant visual language of the Nintendo/Illumination film and runs it through BEAMS’ distinctly Tokyo-casual design sensibility. The standout piece is the all-over print open-collar short-sleeve shirt (¥13,200), which covers every inch of fabric with Coins, Fire Flowers, Super Mushrooms and Question Blocks in a pattern that somehow manages to feel wearable rather than overwhelming. It comes in white and navy, and there is a matching all-over print tote bag (¥7,700) in the same two colour options if you want to commit fully to the look.

The Bowser items deserve their own spotlight. Getting It to Singapore

The collection is Japan-exclusive for now and available through the BEAMS Online Store and BEAMS retail locations across Japan. There is no confirmation of a wider international release or a Singapore-specific retail drop at this stage.

Singapore fans who want to order will need to use a Japanese proxy shopping or forwarding service — these typically charge a service fee on top of the item price and shipping, so factor that in before hitting checkout on the pricier sweatshirts. Items are priced between ¥7,700 and ¥13,200, putting most pieces in the same ballpark as a mid-range streetwear purchase once shipping is added.

The movie itself crossed USD $1 billion at the global box office and had a strong run in Singapore cinemas this April, with Nintendo’s local site carrying full movie information. If you missed the Uniqlo UT collaboration from earlier in the year (which did land in Singapore stores), the BEAMS pieces occupy a slightly more premium, Japan-fashion-brand position — fewer pieces, more distinctive designs, and import-only for most of us.

What Is Nintendo GameCube – Nintendo Classics?

Nintendo GameCube – Nintendo Classics is the GameCube tier of the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack subscription, and it’s exclusive to Nintendo Switch 2. The library now spans over 270 titles across GameCube, N64, GBA, SNES, Game Boy, NES, Virtual Boy, and select Sega Genesis classics — all with added features like online multiplayer and rewind.

In Singapore, a Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack membership runs S$69.90 per year for an individual plan, or S$119.90 per year for a Family Membership covering up to eight Nintendo Accounts — that works out to roughly S$10 per person annually when shared.

Super Mario Sunshine on Switch 2 — Why It Matters

Super Mario Sunshine last appeared on Nintendo hardware via Super Mario 3D All-Stars on the original Switch — a limited-release package that Nintendo delisted in March 2021. Anyone who missed that window has had no legitimate way to play it on a Nintendo system since. August 13 finally closes that gap.

The game puts Mario on the tropical island of Isle Delfino, armed with FLUDD — a jetpack-like water-spraying device — to clean up graffiti and fight Shadow Mario across sun-drenched stages. It’s one of the most visually distinct 3D Mario games ever made, and it’s been conspicuously absent from Nintendo’s modern catalogue for a long time.

More Nintendo Classics Additions Coming in August

Nintendo is rolling out two rounds of Nintendo Classics updates this month. First up on August 4 are two cancelled Virtual Boy titles — Zero Racers and D-Hopper — which have never been commercially available and are essentially lost games now getting a rare public release. Then Mario Sunshine lands the following week on August 13.

For Switch 2 owners already subscribed to the Expansion Pack tier, these additions cost nothing extra. For those still on the base Nintendo Switch Online plan, the Expansion Pack upgrade is the next step — and with over 270 games and the GameCube library continuing to grow, it’s becoming a harder value case to argue against.
