Minecraft Arrives on Nintendo Switch 2 on 27 October — Vibrant Visuals and Digital Upgrade Confirmed

Minecraft is coming to Nintendo Switch 2 on 27 October 2026, with a confirmed digital upgrade path for existing Switch owners and Vibrant Visuals switched on by default. Mojang Studios confirmed the specific release date on 5 August, giving Switch 2 owners a clear Q4 launch to plan around.

Vibrant Visuals Come as Standard on Switch 2

The headline feature of the Switch 2 edition is Vibrant Visuals, an enhanced graphics mode Mojang rolled out last year, bringing directional lighting, volumetric fog, improved shadows, and richer reflections to the familiar block-built world. On Switch 2, it ships as the default visual experience — players land in the enhanced mode without changing any settings. Supported Marketplace content gets the upgrade automatically.

The Super Mario Mash-Up pack, exclusive to Nintendo platforms and a fan favourite locally, also receives a dedicated Vibrant Visuals boost. Peach’s Castle and Delfino Plaza will look noticeably warmer and more atmospheric with the new lighting.

One caveat worth flagging: Vibrant Visuals are not available in split-screen multiplayer or with certain Marketplace content that hasn’t been updated to support the feature — a sensible trade-off that shouldn’t affect most solo or online sessions.

Upgrade Path for Switch Owners — Pricing Still to Come

Mojang has confirmed a digital upgrade path for players who already own Minecraft on the original Nintendo Switch. Your world save data transfers across to Switch 2, so your builds, farms, and years of progress survive the jump intact. What hasn’t been confirmed yet is whether the upgrade is free or a paid add-on; Mojang says full eligibility requirements and pricing are coming separately. Check the official Minecraft announcement before assuming any price.

Switch 2 in Singapore: A Busy Q4 Ahead

Minecraft has been a staple of Singapore households — on PC, mobile, and especially the Switch — and the Switch 2 edition lands in a packed final quarter. Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave arrives in September, Nintendo Switch Sports Resort follows in October, and Minecraft Switch 2 closes out the same month. For families running a mix of Switch and Switch 2 hardware, the save-data transfer makes upgrading a much easier call once pricing is clear.

The Switch 2 edition itself has no confirmed SGD price yet. Pricing for both the new version and the upgrade path will be announced closer to launch. Stay across our game news section for the update.
