The original Curious Village launched on the Nintendo DS in 2007 — the very first entry in Level-5’s beloved puzzle-adventure series, and for many Singapore gamers who owned a DS, the game that made Professor Layton and his apprentice Luke household names. The remake keeps the core story intact: Layton and Luke travel to the isolated village of St. Mystere to uncover the mystery surrounding a hidden inheritance called the Golden Apple. What changes is essentially everything around it.
Characters are now rendered in 3D, with high-resolution, widescreen animations replacing the original’s compact dual-screen DS presentation. The remake is not the 2019 mobile HD port, which simply upscaled the 2D sprites to run on phones. This is a full rebuild.
