Until Dawn 2 Launches 28 January 2027 on PS5 — Dead True’s Pacific Horror Begins

Sony and Firesprite confirmed at the September 2026 PlayStation State of Play that Until Dawn 2 launches exclusively on PS5 on 28 January 2027 — and pre-orders open 10 September. The sequel trades the snowbound Blackwood Pines cabin for a sweltering South Pacific island, with a new cast of eight and the franchise’s signature branching horror intact.

Dead True: YouTube Ghost-Hunters in Over Their Heads

The story centres on Dead True, a fake paranormal YouTube channel fronted by Owen (Dacre Montgomery), a cocky star who turns the supernatural into content. When the crew crosses paths with Yoona (Gia Kim) — a survivor of a genuine supernatural attack, encountered at HorrorCon in Sydney — they are pulled toward Akishima Island, an abandoned luxury resort in the South Pacific that shut down mysteriously in the 1970s. Century-old secrets are described as “hungry for vengeance.”

Dr Hill, played by Peter Stormare, returns from the original game. The full ensemble of eight includes Owen, co-host Mina (Camila Senna), missing team member Nate (Spence Moore II), new intern Izzy (Sarah Catherine Hook), and Yoona, plus three more crew members whose fates are entirely in players’ hands.

Firesprite — the Liverpool studio behind the 2024 Until Dawn remake, acquired by Sony in 2021 — developed the sequel with AdHoc Studio handling the branching narrative. Every decision carries weight: who survives depends entirely on player choices, and the game promises “gruesome deaths” for those who make the wrong call.

The setting shift from a frozen mountain lodge to a tropical island gives the sequel a different atmospheric flavour — isolation and paradise warped into dread, rather than the cold and dark of Blackwood Pines. Footage in the pre-order trailer shows the choice system still front and centre: snap decisions presented on a split screen, each with its own consequences.

The choice mechanic is front and centre in the new trailer, which shows a woman — likely Mina or Josie — forced to choose between rituals mid-scene, one hand holding a white bird. That kind of split-second moral extremity was the heartbeat of the original Until Dawn, and Firesprite is leaning into it fully.

With eight playable characters across a single run-through, the replay value is substantial: different choices unlock different story branches, and the Diorama of Death feature in the Digital Deluxe edition lets players revisit every gruesome ending out of context.

Editions and Pre-Order Details

Pre-orders open 10 September 2026 on the PlayStation Store. Both editions come with Dr. Hill’s classic outfit, a holiday island outfit, and Dr. Hill bobblehead collectibles.

The Digital Deluxe Edition adds the Y2K Neon Vibes Pack — costumes for all eight characters — and the Diorama of Death feature, which lets players replay every death scene as a standalone vignette.
