AION 2 Is Coming to Asia This September — What Singapore MMO Veterans Need to Know

If you spent any part of 2009 to 2015 grinding rifts in the Abyss, fighting over artifact nodes in the Brusthonin fortress, or just flying over Elysea at golden hour — AION 2 is officially on the calendar. NCSoft’s long-awaited sequel to one of Southeast Asia’s most beloved MMORPGs has a global launch window of September 2026, with an Asia server confirmed and the game free-to-play on Steam and the NC PURPLE launcher.

Here’s everything Singapore players need to know before the wings come back.

A Sequel 15 Years in the Making

The original AION launched in Korea in 2008 and hit Southeast Asia in 2009, quickly becoming a staple of the regional MMO scene. The combination of flight combat, the Elyos-versus-Asmodian faction war, and striking visuals made it one of the defining online games of its era in Singapore and across the region. NCSoft eventually wound down the global servers in phases, but the game maintained a passionate community through private servers long after the official shutdowns.

AION 2 is a full sequel — not a remaster or a mobile port. It is built in Unreal Engine 5, and the visual leap is immediately apparent. Gone are the 2008-era character models; in their place are sweeping open-world environments, detailed character customisation, and lighting that finally does justice to the celestial-versus-fallen-angel aesthetic the series always aimed for.

What’s New — and What’s Back

The two core factions return: the radiant Elyos and the shadowy Asmodians, still locked in their eternal conflict over the fragmented world of Atreia. Flight remains a central mechanic rather than a tacked-on travel feature — players can engage enemies in the air, pull off aerial manoeuvres, and access zones that are simply unreachable on foot.

AION 2 launches with nine playable classes spanning the familiar archetypes — frontline warriors, spellcasters, support healers, and stealth-based assassins — with some new additions to the roster. The class system retains the dual-spec flexibility that allowed players in the original game to shift between offensive and utility roles depending on content.

Content at launch is designed around a mix of solo questing, party dungeons, and large-scale raids. The PvPvE Abyss zones — the defining feature of the original that blended faction warfare with contested PvE objectives — return in an evolved form, with NCSoft promising improved server stability for the chaotic three-way encounters players remember.

How Singapore Players Can Access AION 2

NCSoft has confirmed a dedicated Asia server for global launch. Singapore players will be able to join via Steam (where AION 2 already has a store page) or through NCSoft’s own NC PURPLE launcher, which handles regional authentication. Both routes lead to the same servers.

The base game is free-to-play with no purchase required to download and start playing. This is a significant shift from the original AION’s subscription model, which was one of the reasons its Western and SEA populations eventually migrated away.

Monetisation: What NCSoft Revealed on 10 July

NCSoft published its full monetisation plan on 10 July 2026, ahead of launch. The structure is layered:

  • Free-to-play base: Full access to the game, all zones, and base progression at no cost.
  • Optional subscription (~USD 15/month): Boosts to XP gain and item drop rates, plus quality-of-life perks. This is voluntary and does not gate any content.
  • Cosmetic cash shop: Appearance items, wing designs, mounts, and housing decorations sold separately. No gear with stats for real money.
  • Daeva Battle Pass: A seasonal progression track offering cosmetic rewards alongside earnable in-game items.
  • Founder Packs: Pre-launch bundles that include a 5-day early access head start, exclusive cosmetics, and other launch bonuses. These are available for purchase now ahead of the September launch window.

The subscription being optional rather than mandatory is going to matter a lot for the Singapore market. The original AION’s monthly fee was a sticking point for students and casual players in SEA. With F2P access and an optional sub for committed players, NCSoft is positioning AION 2 for a much broader regional audience than the original ever managed to sustain.

The GT Take

AION 2 has a real chance to land well here. NCSoft knows the SEA market from its AION 1 history, the Asia server removes the latency issues that plagued regional players on Western infrastructure, and the free-to-play model eliminates the single biggest barrier to re-entry. Whether the Abyss captures the same magic as the 2010 peak days is something only the players can decide — but the bones are right. September can’t come soon enough.

AION 2 launches globally in September 2026 on PC via Steam and NC PURPLE. The Asia server is confirmed. Founder Packs with 5-day early access are available now via the Steam store page.

FFXIV Fan Festival Berlin 2026: Full SGT Schedule, Evercold Reveals and What to Watch

The stage schedule for FINAL FANTASY XIV Fan Festival 2026 in Berlin is live, and the headline moment arrives at 4:00 PM SGT on Saturday, 25 July — prime Singapore time. Naoki Yoshida takes the keynote stage to make what Square Enix calls “big announcements,” and the most anticipated reveal is the new Tank job for the Evercold expansion. The venue is sold out, but the entire programme — except the two concert nights — streams free on YouTube and Twitch.

Evercold: What Berlin Is Expected to Reveal

Yoshida unveiled Evercold — FFXIV’s Patch 8.0 expansion — at the Anaheim Fan Fest in April 2026, confirming a world consumed by spreading frost, a level cap rise to 110, two brand-new jobs, a Kefka-themed ultimate raid, and an Evangelion alliance raid. Neither new job has been named or shown yet: the Tank is expected at Berlin, and the Physical Ranged DPS is widely anticipated at the Tokyo Fan Fest in October. For Singapore players, Evercold is targeting a January 2027 launch — plenty of time to catch up on Dawntrail, which is 50% off on the Square Enix Store and Mog Station until 31 July. FFXIV is also arriving on Nintendo Switch 2 in August, so the run-up to Evercold is shaping up to be a big few months.

Full Stream Schedule in SGT

All panels stream free on the official FFXIV YouTube and Twitch. Square Enix advises against co-streaming the keynote on YouTube (Content ID risk); other platforms are fine. Concert streams require a paid virtual ticket — pricing details to be announced.

Beastmaster Arrives in Patch 7.56

The Saturday late-night slot (10:30 PM – 12:30 AM SGT) is the Letter from the Producer LIVE, with Yoshida and community producer Foxclon joined by Lead Battle Content Designer Masaki Nakagawa for a two-hour deep dive into Beastmaster — FFXIV’s first new limited job since Blue Mage. Live gameplay is confirmed. The stream carries live English/Japanese interpretation throughout, so non-Japanese speakers get everything in real time. Co-streaming via Twitch is permitted.

Concert Nights — Keiko and THE PRIMALS

Both performances begin at 1:30 AM SGT and require a paid virtual ticket (pricing forthcoming). In-person tickets to hub27 in Berlin are sold out.

Night 1 (Saturday): Pianist Keiko returns for a solo concert — intimate arrangements of Eorzean themes building from quiet, crystalline passages to full cathartic crescendos. Based on her Anaheim performance, expect beloved pieces from across the entire FFXIV run.

Night 2 (Sunday): THE PRIMALS, led by Sound Director Masayoshi Soken, close out the weekend with a full band set. The schedule description says it all: “bring your LED light sticks and rock along.”

Crystalline Conflict Championship and the Cosplay Walk

Sunday opens at 4:00 PM SGT with the Crystalline Conflict Regional Championship for Europe and Oceania. Four teams have advanced through regional rounds to compete for the title on the main stage, with Yoshida, Kevin Bouffard, and casters Rookuri and Lythi on the desk. Oceanian teams means familiar data centre names — Elemental and Materia players may spot squads they’ve run into in ranked.

Later at 10:00 PM SGT, the Cosplay Walk brings Warriors of Light in full FFXIV costume to the main stage. Previous Fan Fests have delivered breathtaking craftsmanship — Dawntrail and Shadowbringers characters are likely front and centre this year.

Final Fantasy XIV Is Coming to Switch 2 in August — What Singapore Players Need to Know

Singapore’s FFXIV community has been patient — and the wait is nearly over. Final Fantasy XIV Online is coming to Nintendo Switch 2 in August 2026, marking the first time the critically acclaimed MMORPG has ever appeared on a dedicated handheld. With full cross-platform progression, a free early-access window, and a meaningful subscription discount for existing players, the Switch 2 version is shaping up to be a smart pick-up for anyone who wants to take Eorzea on the go.

Launch Window and Free Early Access

Square Enix has confirmed that Final Fantasy XIV will launch on Nintendo Switch 2 in August 2026, with an exact date still to be announced. The release will open with approximately one month of free early access — designed to let Square Enix stress-test servers before official service begins. During that window, you can play at no charge; once official service launches, a subscription kicks in.

Subscriptions: The Deal for Existing Singapore Players

This is the headline detail for the many Singapore and SEA players already subbed on PC or PS5: you can add the Switch 2 version at half price. While your existing subscription on another platform remains active, the Nintendo Switch 2 subscription is available at 50% off. That makes the ask for portable Eorzea considerably more palatable.

A few other things to note:

  • The Switch 2 version requires a separate game purchase and subscription on top of your existing licence.
  • Nintendo Switch Online membership is not required — FFXIV handles its own online infrastructure.
  • The free trial remains available and substantial: it covers all of A Realm Reborn and the Heavensward expansion — well over 100 hours of story content before you spend a cent on a subscription.

How It Plays: 30fps, Joy-Con Mouse and Cross-Platform Progression

According to Nintendo Life’s breakdown of the Switch 2 gameplay trailer, the game targets a stable 30fps — consistent performance is the priority over chasing 60fps, which makes sense for a game built around long sessions. The trailer also confirmed Joy-Con mouse support, letting players use the Switch 2’s Joy-Con in mouse mode to navigate the UI and hotbars in a way that feels closer to the PC experience than a standard controller would.

Cross-platform character progression is fully supported via your Square Enix account. Your Warrior of Light, gear, story progress, and inventory carry across platforms — log in on Switch 2 and you pick up exactly where you left off on PC or PS5.

Evercold — The Sixth Expansion — Arrives January 2027

Square Enix also announced the sixth expansion, Evercold, launching in January 2027 across all platforms. Switch 2 players who jump in during the August early-access window will have several months to work through existing story arcs and be ready for Evercold alongside PC and PlayStation veterans when it drops.

Last Words

For Singapore FFXIV players who’ve spent years wondering if they’d ever get handheld Eorzea, August 2026 is your moment. The 50% sub discount for existing subscribers makes the Switch 2 version a reasonable second home for the game, and the free trial remains one of the best entry points in online gaming for newcomers. Keep an eye on our latest game news — Square Enix hasn’t announced a specific August date yet, but it will land soon.
