As of yesterday, there is something bigger on the table: IMAX screenings confirmed across 37 countries — making this the first film in the Puella Magi Madoka Magica franchise to receive the IMAX treatment.
37 Countries, One Opening Night
Puella Magi Madoka Magica: The Witch’s Rondo — Walpurgisnacht Rising opens 28 August 2026. Aniplex of America is handling North American distribution, with Aniplex’s international partners covering Europe, parts of Asia-Pacific, and Latin America. The full country list has not been released publicly, but 37 territories is one of the widest simultaneous IMAX rollouts for a Japanese anime theatrical release on record.

What “IMAX” Actually Means for This Film
It is worth being precise here: Walpurgisnacht Rising was not animated in the full 1.43:1 IMAX native frame ratio. As TechTimes notes, what the IMAX presentation delivers is the enhanced audio system and the laser projection upgrade — the image fills more of the screen than a standard cinema screen, but the aspect ratio remains the film’s original animated dimensions.
For a franchise where Yuki Kajiura’s compositions are arguably as essential as the visuals, the audio upgrade is the more meaningful part of the package. Anyone who has seen a Kajiura-scored film through IMAX’s audio system will know the difference.
Singapore: Watch Closely
As of this writing, Singapore has not been confirmed among the 37 territories. No local cinema announcement has been made by the film’s Southeast Asia distributor. Given the size of the Madoka Magica fanbase here and the breadth of the global rollout, a Singapore listing is plausible — but until a local cinema posts actual screening times, treat this as “monitor” rather than “mark your calendar.”

IMAX distribution signals that Aniplex and its international partners see this as a full theatrical event — not a limited Japan release with an eventual streaming window.
