CD PROJEKT RED closed out Gamescom Opening Night Live with a surprise that’s going to mean a lot to your backlog: The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Remastered launches 29 September 2026 as a free upgrade for everyone who already owns the game on PC, PS5, or Xbox Series X|S. On top of that, all base-game owners just got Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine for free, effective immediately.
29 September: Free Upgrade for Existing Owners
If you own The Witcher 3 on PC, PlayStation 5, or Xbox Series X|S, the Remastered edition automatically upgrades your copy at no cost. For Nintendo Switch 2, a brand-new native build launches the same day. CDPR has also announced a partnership with Blizzard Entertainment to bring the game to Battle.net, giving PC players another storefront option.
What’s Actually New in the Remastered
This isn’t just a resolution bump. CD PROJEKT RED is reworking core systems across the board:
- Combat overhaul — new finishers, improved responsiveness, revamped Witcher signs effects
- New skill tree with transmogrification — change your gear’s appearance without losing stats
- Improved traversal — Roach handling and movement have been reworked
- Smarter enemies — enhanced monster AI and behaviors
- PC visuals — path tracing and DLSS 4.5 support
- Expanded photo mode, accessibility enhancements, and cross-platform mod support
Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine Are Now Free
Separate from the Remastered upgrade: as of the announcement, all base-game owners of The Witcher 3 have been granted access to both expansions — Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine — at no extra charge. If you bought the base game on Steam, PS5, or Xbox and never picked up the DLC, check your library now. The Complete Edition, which included both expansions, was the de facto recommendation for years; CDPR has now made that the default for everyone.
Songs of the Past — The New Paid Expansion in 2027
The Remastered reveal came alongside the first footage of Songs of the Past, a brand-new paid expansion co-developed with Fool’s Theory (the studio behind the Baldur’s Gate 1 and 2 remakes). It introduces a new region called Letten and launches in 2027. We covered the Songs of the Past trailer separately yesterday, but it’s worth noting both announcements came in the same Gamescom ONL segment.
What Singapore Players Need to Do Before 29 September
For PC players on Steam: the Remastered will appear as a free update to your existing library entry on September 29. Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine should already appear in your library now — check your DLC list. For PS5 owners, update via the PlayStation Store. Xbox players get it via their existing purchase or Game Pass. The Nintendo Switch 2 native version is a new SKU — separate pricing has not been confirmed for the Singapore eShop, so watch local listings. The Battle.net version is a new addition and will likely require a separate purchase for those who don’t already own the game there.
