Hideo Kojima’s long-gestating action-espionage thriller PHYSINT has a new publishing home. Xbox confirmed on 9–10 September 2026 that it will partner with Kojima Productions to bring PHYSINT to market — and potentially to film and television — following the game’s surprise departure from PlayStation Studios in mid-June.
It is a seismic shift. PHYSINT was first revealed at PlayStation’s State of Play in September 2024, with PlayStation Studios attached as publisher. When that arrangement ended quietly three months ago, the fate of what Kojima has called his most ambitious project was suddenly unclear. Today, that uncertainty is over.
From PlayStation to Xbox
Xbox CEO Asha Sharma broke the news with a statement that underscored how significant this partnership is: “We’re honored that Kojima-san has chosen Xbox to work with Kojima Productions on PHYSINT.”
Kojima himself explained what the past three months looked like from his side: “Determined to keep the project alive, we have spent the last three months searching tirelessly for a new partner.” That the search ended with Xbox — not another PlayStation division, not a third-party publisher — speaks volumes about how the industry landscape has shifted.

What We Know — and Don’t Know
PHYSINT remains one of the most enigmatic projects in gaming. Back in May 2025, Kojima pegged the release as “five to six years away” — which puts the earliest realistic window somewhere in the early 2030s. That timeline may shift now that a publisher is locked in, but no new release window has been announced.
The confirmed cast reads like an international film production: UK model and actress Charlee Fraser, Korean action star Ma Dong-seok (Don Lee of Train to Busan fame), and Japanese actress Minami Hamabe. The partnership also explicitly covers film and TV adaptations, suggesting Kojima is building a franchise, not just a game.
On hardware: Game Informer has reported speculation that PHYSINT could target Xbox’s rumoured “Project Helix” next-generation console. Officially, the announcement only says “Xbox platform” — no platform list, no confirmation of PC or any PlayStation version.
The Original Reveal Trailer
No new Xbox-era footage exists yet. For now, the 2024 PlayStation reveal trailer remains the best look at PHYSINT’s tone and direction. The music, the casting footage, and Kojima’s direct-to-camera address are worth revisiting with fresh eyes now that the project has a publisher again.
What This Means for Singapore Players
PHYSINT was always a long game — literally. But for Singapore fans who were anticipating it as a PS5 title, the platform shift matters. Whether any Xbox exclusivity is timed, or whether a multi-platform release eventually includes PlayStation, is unknown. Kojima’s previous PS-exclusive Death Stranding eventually made it to PC and then Xbox — but that was under very different circumstances.
For now, this is an Xbox game. If you don’t already have an Xbox Series X|S or a capable PC on your radar, PHYSINT just gave you a reason to think about it — even if the wait is still measured in years. We’ll keep tabs on any Singapore retailer announcements, local pricing, and release window updates as they come.
