Elden Ring Tarnished Edition Is Out Now on Switch 2 — Reviews Are In (Metacritic 91)

It’s finally here. Elden Ring Tarnished Edition — the full Soulslike epic, complete with the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion — dropped today on Nintendo Switch 2, and the review scores landed right alongside it. With a Metacritic of 91 and a 100% recommendation rate on OpenCritic, FromSoftware’s masterpiece appears to have made the jump to Nintendo’s portable hardware without losing its soul. If you’ve been waiting to play one of the greatest open-world games ever made on the go, today’s the day.

We covered the initial announcement in July and then broke down every new addition ahead of launch. Now that it’s live, here’s the full picture.

What You Get in the Tarnished Edition

Elden Ring Tarnished Edition is the complete package. For US$79.99 (expect around S$105–110 on the Nintendo eShop SG), you get:

  • The full base game, Elden Ring (GOTY 2022, 30+ million copies sold)
  • The critically acclaimed expansion Shadow of the Erdtree
  • Two brand-new starting classes exclusive to this edition: the Heavy Knight and the Idus Knight
  • Three customisation skins for Torrent, your Spectral Steed
  • Four new armor sets (also available to existing owners on PS5/Xbox/PC as a separate paid Tarnished Pack)

The new classes and Torrent skins are Switch 2 exclusives at launch and a genuine reason to revisit the game even if you’ve already sunk hundreds of hours into it on other platforms.

How Does It Run on Switch 2?

FromSoftware and Bandai Namco targeted 30fps across both modes — 1080p handheld and DLSS-upscaled 4K when docked — and the majority of reviewers found that target was met cleanly. The download size is 41GB, so clear some space on your microSD card before you buy.

TechRadar Gaming gave it a perfect 5/5, calling it “a major technical achievement on basically every level, resulting in an outstanding port of one of the best games ever.” Game Reactor UK added that there’s a “quite incredible feeling of being able to play a game of this scale and calibre on the go.”

The one honest caveat from The Sixth Axis (8/10): “Performance downgrades may be too much for veterans of other versions.” If you’re coming in fresh, you won’t feel the difference. If you’ve only ever known the ultra-high-settings PC build, you might.

What the Critics Are Saying

Metacritic: 91 (Universal Acclaim, 41 reviews) | OpenCritic: 88, 100% recommended

  • Nintendo Life — 9/10: “One of the finest games you can currently play in the Switch 2 library.”
  • RPG Fan — 95/100: “The complete experience” despite being best elsewhere on raw specs
  • TechRadar Gaming — 5/5: “A major technical achievement on basically every level”
  • Game Reactor UK — 9/10: Praised the sheer magic of Elden Ring in portable form
  • Game Spew — 9/10
  • The Sixth Axis — 8/10: Wonderful for newcomers; veterans may feel the performance trade-off

One Thing to Know: Online Servers Are Separate

Switch 2 owners play on their own server pool — the Tarnished Edition does not share servers with PS5, Xbox, or PC. That means co-op summons and PvP invasions are limited to other Switch 2 players. The pool will likely be thinner than on PS5 at launch, so go in with managed expectations for multiplayer. Solo players are entirely unaffected.

Where to Buy in Singapore

Elden Ring Tarnished Edition is available now on the Nintendo eShop Singapore for Switch 2. A physical edition is also expected at major game retailers and electronics chains islandwide — check your local store for stock. The Tarnished Pack (new classes + Torrent skins + armor sets) is also available as a separate purchase for existing owners on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam.
