Spike Chunsoft has locked in the Danganronpa 2×2 release date: January 14, 2027. The announcement dropped at Nintendo Direct 2026.9.9, alongside a short teaser of an unnamed character who is not part of the original Danganronpa 2 cast — and who, going by the Japanese trailer, coolly demands a halt to a class trial. Singapore and global fans can mark the calendar across every major platform.
What the Nintendo Direct Confirmed

As we covered when the delay was first announced, Danganronpa 2×2 is developed by Gemdrops and published by Spike Chunsoft. It is a full remake of the 2012 PSP classic Super Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair, built for modern platforms and including a brand-new scenario. The Direct confirmed the specific launch date and released a new introduction trailer from the official Spike Chunsoft channel (embedded below).
The game will launch simultaneously on Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Steam, and Epic Games Store. No Singapore or Asia-Pacific exclusive editions have been announced; global rollout is confirmed for the same day.
Two Ways to Revisit Jabberwock Island

Danganronpa 2×2 ships with two fully playable storylines:
- Original Mode — the complete Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair scenario, remastered with updated visuals and refined presentation for modern hardware.
- Slayhem Mode (Kyōki Mode) — an entirely new scenario set on the same island with the same cast, but a single altered incident sends everything spiralling into different victims, culprits, and murder tricks. Spike Chunsoft puts its volume at roughly 120% of the original — about 35 hours versus the original’s 30.
Slayhem Mode also introduces a fresh debate mechanic called the Argument Correct system, which asks players to choose between negation and affirmation at key moments during opinion clashes inside the class trial.
Who Is the Mystery Character?

The most intriguing moment in the Nintendo Direct trailer is a brief appearance by an unnamed figure who is clearly not part of the established Danganronpa 2 ensemble. In the Japanese teaser, the character declares something close to “I demand a halt to this class trial” — a defiant line that suggests they have agency over the proceedings, which no one in the original game ever did. Spike Chunsoft has not identified the character, their role, or which mode they appear in. Whether this newcomer is a Slayhem-only creation or a revelation saved for the late game in Original Mode remains entirely open.
