TOHO Animation had the internet guessing for 24 hours with a teaser that simply read: “Food terror is coming.” The answer arrived late on August 4 in Japan — and it turned out to be a gag comedy about a woman who cannot stop thinking about food. Dokagui Daisuki! Mochizuki-san is getting a TV anime adaptation, produced by TOHO Animation and animated by studio Passione.
What Is Dokagui Daisuki! Mochizuki-san?
The manga launched in May 2024 across Hakusensha’s Young Animal Zero magazine and the Young Animal Web platform, written and drawn by Kamome Maruyono. The premise is a gourmet gag comedy: Mochizuki is a character defined entirely by a relentless, all-consuming craving for food — dokagui meaning “binge eating” or eating with reckless abandon. Every chapter follows Mochizuki’s single-minded pursuit of the next meal, played for laughs with a warm, slice-of-life energy.
The manga has built a quietly devoted readership since its debut: it was nominated for the prestigious Manga Taisho award in 2025 and cracked the top 20 of Takarajimasha’s Kono Manga ga Sugoi! 2026 ranking in the male readers category — strong company for a series that was only two years old at the time.
TOHO Animation and Studio Passione
The production carries the full weight of the TOHO Animation label — the house responsible for Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End, Jujutsu Kaisen, SPY x FAMILY, My Hero Academia, and Kaiju No. 8. When TOHO backs a title, it tends to reach audiences worldwide. Animation production is in the hands of Passione, best known in Singapore for the emotionally charged O Maidens in Your Savage Season and the boldly stylised Citrus. It is an interesting pairing: a studio whose work skews dramatic and character-led applied to material that is fundamentally comedic and food-obsessed.
What We Know (and What Is Still TBA)
The announcement confirmed the title, studio, and production house. A premiere date and streaming platform have not yet been revealed. TOHO Animation typically announces simulcast partners closer to broadcast, so Singapore fans should watch this space — based on the studio’s track record, a Crunchyroll or Netflix simulcast is the most likely outcome, though nothing has been confirmed at time of writing.
The “food terror” tease TOHO ran on August 3–4 — hinting at imagery of yakisoba, spaghetti, and karaage — was a tongue-in-cheek reference to Mochizuki’s world-ending appetite rather than anything gothic or frightening. In hindsight it fits the series’s humour perfectly.
Food anime has a strong track record with Singapore audiences — from Food Wars! to Dungeon Meshi, the genre consistently draws in viewers who might not otherwise follow a simulcast. Dokagui Daisuki!
