Nioh 3: Hell Rising DLC Drops 19 August — Keian-Era Edo, Yagyu Jubei and New Weapons

Six months after its launch, Team NINJA’s Nioh 3 is about to get significantly harder — and a lot more interesting. The first DLC expansion, Hell Rising, drops on 19 August 2026 for PlayStation 5 and PC via Steam, opening an entirely new chapter set in a ruined version of Edo.

The DLC picks up with the protagonist Takechiyo flung forward in time to Edo, 1651 — the opening years of the Keian era — only to find the city locked in fresh chaos after the death of the future shogun. What should have been a settled Japan is instead a hellish wasteland, the Crucible’s gales tearing through it once more.

Two characters form the core of this new story: Yagyu Jubei, the legendary one-eyed swordsman, and Rodrigo, a Spanish envoy with his own stake in untangling the Spirit Stone mysteries driving the crisis. The mix of historical Japanese figure and foreign arrival fits Nioh 3’s broader theme of feudal Japan meeting the wider world — and gives the DLC a distinct flavour from the base game’s arcs.

New Weapon Class: Hoko and Shield

Hell Rising introduces a brand-new weapon archetype: the Hoko and Shield, available in both Samurai and Ninja builds. The design blends the short spear’s reach and stabbing power with a shield’s blocking capability — a combination that opens up a more defensive, guard-counter-focused playstyle that Nioh 3’s existing arsenal doesn’t quite replicate.

Beyond the weapon itself, the DLC brings new Martial Arts, Ninjutsu abilities, Guardian Spirits, and Soul Cores — giving veterans a fresh batch of build options to experiment with on top of what’s carried over from the base game.

Enlightened One’s Journey: The New Hardest Mode

If Shogun’s Journey was already stretching your limits, Team NINJA is going further. Enlightened One’s Journey lands above it as Nioh 3’s new ceiling difficulty — enemies carry active Curse buffs that make engagements far more punishing than the base-game top tier. It is the kind of mode that exists specifically for players who have already burned through everything the game had to offer and still want more resistance.

There is also a new piece of equipment, the Hundred Demon Realms Picture Scroll, which auto-generates challenge battles — offering a customisable way to keep farming and testing builds outside the main mission flow.

Season Pass and What’s Next

Hell Rising is available as part of the Nioh 3 Season Pass at US$39.99, which covers this expansion and the forthcoming second DLC, Bloody Insurrection. If you own the Digital Deluxe Edition you are already covered.

For Singapore players, both PS5 and Steam versions are accessible locally. The PS5 version is available at PlayStation Store SGD pricing; the Steam version is region-free. If you have been sitting on the fence about getting into Nioh 3, the Koei Tecmo sale that ran through early August — up to 36% off on Steam — may be worth revisiting ahead of Tuesday’s DLC drop.

Hell Rising launches 19 August 2026. Check the official Nioh 3 site for full details, or browse more game news on GameTrader.
