The wait for one final piece of My Hero Academia anime is over. Studio BONES’s 6-minute anniversary short I Am a Hero Too began streaming on Crunchyroll from 2 August 2026 — and it completes the anime’s adaptation of every page Kohei Horikoshi ever drew for the franchise.

What Is ‘I Am a Hero Too’?

The short adapts the five-page one-shot Horikoshi drew for the official fan book My Hero Academia: Ultra Age, released in December 2024 after the manga’s conclusion in Weekly Shonen Jump. Ultra Age served as the series’ formal goodbye, and this animated version gives that farewell the Studio BONES treatment fans have been hoping for since the main anime wrapped on 13 December 2025.

The production team behind the main series returns: screenplay by Yosuke Kuroda, storyboard by Naomi Nakayama, direction by Tomo Okubo, and animation direction by Yoshihiko Umakoshi and Hitomi Odashima. The dub cast reprises their roles, with Justin Briner as Deku, Christopher Sabat as All Might, Clifford Chapin as Bakugo, and David Matranga as Todoroki.

Eri’s New Chapter: What Happens in the Short

Years have passed since the final battle. Eri is now a high school student — and she wants to become a musician. Inspired by Class 1-A’s legendary School Festival performance (the one where Kyoka Jiro first sang “Hero too”), Eri has been working toward her own first street live performance, coming up that weekend. She stops by U.A. to see the teachers who helped save her, running into All Might, Eraser Head, and Present Mic — but there’s one person she especially hopes to find: Deku, now working as a teacher at the school.

The short is deliberately brief — a quiet, warm coda rather than a grand finale — but it lands as the proper goodbye to the series that the main anime’s epilogue set up. No new conflicts, no world-ending threats: just Eri growing up in the world that Deku and everyone else fought to protect.

The Song: Eri Covers ‘Hero Too’ on the 10th Anniversary

Tied to the short is the release of Hero too —10th Anniversary ver.—, a new recording of the iconic song now performed by the character Eri, with vocals by singer Myka Morton. The original “Hero too” was performed by Kyoka Jiro at U.A.’s School Festival in Season 4, written as an in-universe moment that became one of the most beloved scenes in the entire anime. This anniversary cover shifts the perspective — it is Eri singing the song that once inspired her — and the acoustic arrangement gives it a gentler, more emotional tone. It is now available on major music streaming platforms.

Creator Kohei Horikoshi also released a new illustration featuring the full main cast to mark the short’s debut, as part of the ongoing 10th anniversary celebration of the anime’s April 2016 premiere.

Crunchyroll carries the short in Southeast Asia, including Singapore, with both Japanese audio and English dub available. It also streams on Netflix and Prime Video.
