Rune Factory 6 and New Story of Seasons Show First WIP Footage at Anniversary Stream

Two of the most beloved farming-sim JRPG franchises in Singapore and Southeast Asia just confirmed they have new entries in development — and tonight we finally got our first look at both. During Marvelous’s special 30th/20th anniversary livestream, the studio dropped work-in-progress footage for Rune Factory 6 and an as-yet-untitled new Story of Seasons game, giving farming sim fans something genuinely exciting to hold on to.

As we covered earlier today, the milestone stream kicked off at 7PM SGT, celebrating 30 years of the Story of Seasons (Bokujou Monogatari) series and 20 years of Rune Factory. Beyond the retrospectives and character poll results, Marvelous used the occasion to surface progress on both upcoming titles — the first real sign of life from either since their original announcements in 2023.

The biggest reveal for Rune Factory fans: WIP footage from Rune Factory 6, the next mainline numbered entry in the series, showed characters exploring a sprawling, sunlit city square surrounded by gothic-inspired architecture. The scene is brief but immediately striking — characters in the series’ signature chibi art style navigate stone-paved streets with towering cathedrals and lush market greenery filling the background. A disclaimer on-screen noted that all footage is in development.

Series Director Shiro Maekawa confirmed development is underway. The game is set on the western continent of Adonea — a region the franchise has never explored before. With Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma (2025) having taken the series to an eastern, Japan-inspired setting, Rune Factory 6 is designed as a counterpart rooted in the west. No platforms or release window were announced.

An Untitled New Story of Seasons Is Also in the Works

The second WIP clip belonged to an untitled new Story of Seasons game. The footage reveals a vibrant 3D farm environment — close-ups of adorable, round-faced cows and a fluffy chicken on a sunny field, with a cosy farmhouse tucked into a wooded backdrop. The art style looks polished and full of personality. Like Rune Factory 6, this one has no confirmed platforms or release date, and carries the same in-development disclaimer.

What Singapore Farming Sim Fans Need to Know

Both franchises have loyal communities here in Singapore and across Southeast Asia. Rune Factory 4 Special and Rune Factory 5 were available locally on Nintendo Switch both physically and digitally, and Guardians of Azuma continued that trend earlier this year. Story of Seasons: Grand Bazaar similarly expanded its platform reach in 2026.

With no platforms announced for either new title, it is too early to know whether they will land on Switch 2, current-gen consoles, or PC. Given Marvelous’s track record, a Nintendo platform release is a reasonable expectation — but SG fans should not assume local availability until there is an official announcement closer to launch. Both WIP clips are clearly early-stage footage, so a release is likely at least a year or more away.

Keep an eye on more game news here for any follow-up announcements from Marvelous. The next major opportunity for new reveals is Gamescom Opening Night Live tomorrow, 25 August, starting from 3AM SGT.
