New KochiKame Anime Reveals 2027 Cast and Director

After a decade off air, Kankichi Ryotsu is finally coming back to Fuji TV — and this week the new KochiKame 2027 anime confirmed everything fans have been waiting for: a full voice cast, a director, and a character PV from the Jump Channel on YouTube.

As we covered when the 50th anniversary lineup was announced in August, Shueisha was holding the cast reveal for a special event. That event took place this week, and Shin KochiKame (新こちら葛飾区亀有公園前派出所) now has voices behind its iconic faces.

KochiKame 2027 Anime Cast: Four Iconic Roles, New Voices

Fukushi Ochiai steps in to voice Kankichi Ryotsu, the perpetually broke and scheme-prone officer of Katsushika’s Kameari Police Box. It is one of the most storied lead roles in Weekly Shonen Jump history — Ryotsu carried a 201-volume manga from 1976 to 2016 and a 330-episode Fuji TV anime from 1996 to 2004, making him a household name across Japan and much of Asia.

Joining him: Shouta Aoi as the aristocratic Keiichi Nakagawa, M.A.O as Reiko Akimoto, and Raiko Sakamoto as the gruff Danjiro Ohara. The four make up the core Kameari ensemble that readers and viewers across the region — Singapore included — grew up with.

Director Akitarō Daichi and Studio Gallop at the Helm

Directing the new series is Akitarō Daichi, a veteran whose credits include the 2001 Fruits Basket adaptation and the gag anime Me & Roboco — a solid fit for KochiKame’s brand of slapstick comedy. The production returns to Studio Gallop, the same studio behind the original Fuji TV run.

Character designer and chief animation director is Kenichi Hara, with Gil-Bo Noh as an additional chief animation director. Composer Toshihiko Sahashi handles the score, and scripts go to Shuichi Kamiyama and Yoshifumi Fukushima. The combination of familiar studio and seasoned staff is reassuring for fans nervous about a revival of a beloved classic.

When Does Singapore Get the New KochiKame Anime?

Shin KochiKame is confirmed for a 2027 premiere on Fuji TV in Japan, with streaming across various platforms. No specific regional distribution has been announced for Singapore or Southeast Asia yet.

The original anime was widely broadcast across Asian cable channels — many Singapore fans discovered Ryotsu through those runs. Given the scale of this 50th-anniversary revival, a regional streaming pickup seems likely, but nothing is confirmed. Check back here for updates as the premiere approaches.
