Chapter 420 — the final instalment of a 10-chapter summer run — drops today, 6 September 2026, in Weekly Shonen Jump Issue #41. Shueisha confirmed on 4 September that no return date has been set.
Ten Chapters, Then Silence — The Numbers Behind This Run
The manga returned on 28 June 2026 with Chapter 411 — the first new content after an 18-month pause — and ran on a mostly weekly cadence through to Chapter 420. Ten chapters over roughly ten weeks is, as fans know, an extraordinary pace for this series. Yoshihiro Togashi’s chronic back condition means full serialisation has never been a given, and stretches like this one are genuinely rare.
Chapter 420 continues the Succession Contest arc aboard the Black Whale ship, where Tserriednich’s movements and Hisoka’s casino machinations converge. Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump announcement quoted by JCR Comic Arts reads: “Chapters 428 to 430 are in their latest stages of production, but no return date has been announced as of now.”
Work Is Continuing — More Chapters Already Written
The silver lining here is significant. According to Game Rant, Togashi has completed inking through Chapter 423 and has chapters up to 430 in varying stages of production. His stated goal is to complete at least 50 additional chapters — which would bring the total to around Chapter 460 — and he has signalled several ending scenarios planned ahead of time.
That is markedly different from earlier, multi-year hiatuses where readers had little visibility into how far along the next batch of chapters was. Togashi has been more transparent about his workflow since 2022, using social media to share production updates and background art. Fans cautiously pointing to a late 2026 or early 2027 return are not being unreasonably optimistic given the buffer he has built up.
