Asta and Yuno are finally coming back to screens. Studio Pierrot and Shueisha confirmed on 3 September that Black Clover Season 2 premieres on 3 October 2026, bringing the Spade Kingdom Raid arc to Crunchyroll after a five-year wait since episode 170.
The Spade Kingdom Raid Arc
The original 170-episode run ended in 2021 before the anime could reach one of the manga’s most anticipated arcs. Season 2 picks up directly where it left off: Asta, Yuno, and their allies must mount a full-scale invasion of the Spade Kingdom to rescue Magic Knight Captains Yami Sukehiro and William Vangeance from the Dark Triad — siblings Dante, Vanica, and Zenon Zogratis, each having fused with a supreme devil. Both captains are held captive and being used as the anchor for a ritual that could reshape the world’s magical order.
The arc is widely regarded as the high point of Yuki Tabata’s manga. The battles are larger in scale, the stakes are existential, and the series’ devil fusion power system gets its most meaningful expansion yet — with major powerups for both protagonists that fans have been waiting years to see animated.
Upgraded Animation, New Seasonal Format
Director Ayataka Tanemura, who guided the original series through its final stretch (episodes 153–170) and then directed the 2023 film Sword of the Wizard King, returns to helm Season 2. Production stays at Studio Pierrot, and footage screened at Anime Expo 2026 drew strong reactions for noticeably sharper animation — a step up from the original run’s more uneven earlier seasons.
Crucially, Season 2 moves to a seasonal release format rather than the old near-continuous weekly schedule. That production shift should mean more consistent quality across the reported 24 episodes. Asta has pushed his Devil Union form to new depths — merging more completely with Liebe to access power that eclipses anything from the original series. Meanwhile, Yuno’s combined Star Magic and World Tree Spirit powers have grown to the point where he operates as a genuine peer to even the strongest Spade Kingdom adversaries, not just Asta’s friendly rival.
