After years of Baldur’s Gate 3 dominating every conversation about D&D video games, Wizards of the Coast finally has its answer: Warlock: Dungeons & Dragons dropped its first extended gameplay reveal at Gamescom Opening Night Live 2026, and it looks every bit as ambitious as the fantasy RPG community was hoping.

What Is Warlock: Dungeons & Dragons?
Developed by Invoke Studios — a studio under Wizards of the Coast — Warlock is a third-person, single-player action-adventure set in a dark fantasy open world built on D&D lore. You play as Kaatri, a veteran weapons master who seals a pact with a powerful magical patron in exchange for otherworldly abilities. It is a self-contained original story: no need to have played any prior D&D game to jump in.
The setting is Ravenloft, specifically the Domain of Dread known as Darkon — a gothic, fog-drenched realm that veteran D&D players will recognise immediately. It is a smart choice: Ravenloft’s horror-tinged atmosphere separates this game from the sunlit sword-and-sorcery of Baldur’s Gate, giving Warlock its own distinct identity.

Gameplay: Magic as a Swiss Army Knife
The eight-minute reveal footage showed off what Invoke is calling a fluid, systems-driven approach to magic: spells are not just combat tools but movement options and puzzle-solvers. Want to cross a chasm? Use magic. Want to flank an enemy guarding a narrow bridge? Turn the environment against them. The demo showed spell-chaining, weapon-and-magic combo attacks, and weather manipulation — all feeding into the same underlying system.
The gameplay feel draws comparisons to Dragon’s Dogma — responsive, physically expressive combat where positioning matters as much as raw power. Kaatri leaps, rolls, and launches into the air mid-fight, and the magic system opens up vertical play in exploration too.

The Cast — Including Two Familiar Voices
Kaatri is performed by Tricia Helfer (Battlestar Galactica, Lucifer), who delivers a grounded, world-weary warrior energy that grounds the supernatural premise. Her patron — the witch queen Tasha — is voiced by Maggie Robertson, whom many Singapore gamers will recognise immediately as the voice and face of Lady Dimitrescu in Resident Evil Village. Having Robertson back in a gothic horror setting feels very deliberate.

John Hight, President of Wizards of the Coast, said in the official press release: “Warlocks wield powerful, otherworldly magic, but it always comes at a cost. Invoke has crafted a world that captures the dangerous wonder at the heart of DUNGEONS & DRAGONS where players can push the limits of Kaatri’s magic and discover what lies beyond.”
Dominic Guay, General Manager of Invoke Studios, added: “Working with our colleagues at Wizards of the Coast on a brand as rich as D&D has given the team the creative freedom and support to build a new ambitious open-world experience for players.”
Release Date, Platforms & Singapore Availability
Warlock: Dungeons & Dragons is targeting a 2027 release on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (via Steam and the Epic Games Store). No Nintendo Switch 2 version has been announced. Pricing has not yet been confirmed; no Singapore or Southeast Asia-specific release notes have been shared, but given the global digital distribution via Steam and PSN, Singapore players should have day-one access at standard regional pricing.
For tabletop D&D fans in Singapore — and there are a lot of you — Warlock represents the franchise’s best shot at a video game that matches the imagination of the tabletop game since Baldur’s Gate 3. The Ravenloft setting alone is a gift: one of D&D’s most beloved campaign settings, finally given a full AAA open-world treatment. Keep an eye on this one.
