Singapore Gunpla builders, start making room on your shelves. Bandai unveiled the MGEX 1/100 Mighty Strike Freedom Gundam on 25 August 2026 — the first new kit in the prestigious Master Grade Extreme line in over four years — and local pre-orders are already live. If you have been waiting for the MGEX line to return, this is it.
The Return of MGEX
The Master Grade Extreme line sits at the very top of Bandai’s Gunpla hierarchy. Each release is a showcase piece built around a single defining engineering concept — the first MGEX, the RX-0 Unicorn Gundam Ver.Ka in 2020, centred on its expanding psycho-frame reveal; the second, the MGEX Strike Freedom in 2022, introduced mechanical core plating to the line. Four years on, the Mighty Strike Freedom takes that technology further than any Gunpla ever has.
The mech itself comes from Mobile Suit Gundam SEED FREEDOM, the 2024 theatrical film that concluded the SEED saga. Piloted by Kira Yamato, the Strike Freedom Gundam Type II combines with Lacus Clyne’s support craft — the Proud Defender — to form the Mighty Strike Freedom configuration. The union replaces the original’s blue DRAGOON wings with layered white-and-gold wing binders and unlocks weapons previously beyond the Strike Freedom’s reach, including the Convergent Heavy Nucleus Beam Cannon “Disruptor” (mounted in the forehead) and the Proud Defender’s nanoparticle deployment system, capable of generating a spherical barrier for both defence and burst attacks.
What Is in the Kit
The official accessory layout confirms a full armament. Included weapons are the Futsunomitama anti-ship sword, twin Callidus Kai beam rifles, and the hand-held Disruptor. Multiple sets of interchangeable hand parts come finished in gold plating, and a large display base is included for dynamic poses. The real highlight in the box is three character figures: Kira Yamato, a static Lacus Clyne, and a separately poseable Lacus figure that can be attached to the Proud Defender unit — a detail straight from the film’s centrepiece sequence.
A Gunpla First: Coloured Mechanical Core Plating
This is where the MGEX Mighty Strike Freedom makes history. Bandai describes it as the “Iridescent Expression” — three distinct colours of coloured plastic mechanical core plating applied to the clear parts of the wing binders. Previous MGEX kits used a single metallic plating tone; this is the first time in the line’s history that coloured variants have been used simultaneously. The effect captures the Mighty Strike Freedom’s layered shimmer: gold inner binders, white secondary wings with a red-pink edge gradient, and dark inner frame detailing — all achieved in plastic without paint or stickers. Real metallic gloss injection moulding runs throughout the frame for added depth.
As the third MGEX entry and its first new release since 2022, this is by any measure the most technically ambitious mass-market Gunpla Bandai has produced.
Singapore Pre-Orders: S$1,290 at VCA Gundam
VCA Gundam Singapore has listed the kit for priority pre-order at S$1,290, with delivery expected alongside the Japanese release in March to April 2027. VCA notes that first-release stock may be limited and recommends placing a priority order to secure allocation. Premium Bandai Singapore is also worth monitoring for an official direct listing, as it has stocked previous MGEX releases. Other major Gunpla retailers and hobby shops across Singapore are expected to open pre-orders once their allocations are confirmed.
At ¥26,400 (approximately S$1,290 locally), the MGEX Mighty Strike Freedom sits firmly in premium collector territory.
