After an evening of Yo-kai Watch 2 reveals and Decapolice updates, Level-5 saved its biggest card for last: a full, ground-up remake of Professor Layton and the Curious Village, heading to PS5, Nintendo Switch 2, Switch, and PC in 2027. The announcement dropped during the LEVEL5 VISION 2026 II “Dream” showcase on 10 September, and it is exactly the kind of surprise long-time fans have been waiting for.

Back to St. Mystere — in Full 3D

The original Curious Village launched on the Nintendo DS in 2007 — the very first entry in Level-5’s beloved puzzle-adventure series, and for many Singapore gamers who owned a DS, the game that made Professor Layton and his apprentice Luke household names. The remake keeps the core story intact: Layton and Luke travel to the isolated village of St. Mystere to uncover the mystery surrounding a hidden inheritance called the Golden Apple. What changes is essentially everything around it.

LEVEL5 VISION 2026 II 夢 — via LEVEL5ch【公式】 on YouTube

Characters are now rendered in 3D, with high-resolution, widescreen animations replacing the original’s compact dual-screen DS presentation. Level-5 describes exploration as having “greater depth and richer detail,” and the entire experience has been adapted for a single screen — a meaningful re-design given that the DS version split the puzzle interface across its two displays.

From Two Screens to One — What’s Actually New

The remake is not the 2019 mobile HD port, which simply upscaled the 2D sprites to run on phones. This is a full rebuild. Puzzle supervision comes from Akira Tago, the renowned Japanese puzzle expert who oversaw the original, ensuring the 165 puzzles (and presumably any new ones) carry the same carefully calibrated difficulty curve the series is known for. Korean-language support has been confirmed alongside the announcement, suggesting wide Asian distribution is a priority for Level-5 — encouraging news for Singapore fans who have played the series in English or Japanese up to now.

Level-5 has not yet shared a firm release date within 2027, a price point, or specific regional availability. Given that Professor Layton and the New World of Steam is coming to the same platforms on 10 December 2026 with broad international availability, the Curious Village Remake is likely to follow the same distribution path — but that remains to be confirmed.

A Great Time to Be a Layton Fan in Singapore

Singapore gamers who were DS-era kids in 2007 are now in their late twenties and thirties — squarely the audience for a nostalgia-fuelled remake on Switch 2 or PS5. For younger fans who discovered the Professor through the animated film or came to the series late, the Curious Village Remake is an ideal on-ramp: the original is where the tone, the running gags about tea, and the satisfying twist structure were all established, and experiencing it with modern visuals removes one barrier to jumping in.

This also positions Level-5 well heading into a strong late-2026 and 2027 for the Layton series. With New World of Steam arriving in December and the Curious Village Remake confirmed for the year after, the franchise — which went quiet for years after 2017’s Katrielle and the Millionaires’ Conspiracy — is clearly back in full force. For puzzle-game fans in Singapore, that is very good news for local game retail and eShop purchases alike.

Platforms, Window, and What We Know

Platforms: PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, PC (Steam)

Release window: 2027

Confirmed features: 3D characters, widescreen/high-res animations, single-screen redesign, enhanced exploration, Akira Tago puzzle supervision, Korean language support

Still unknown: Exact release date, price, physical edition details, SG eShop availability, Xbox version

There is no price or exact date yet, and no Xbox version has been mentioned — the four confirmed platforms match the lineup for New World of Steam almost exactly.
