Nintendo surprised Zelda fans at the Nintendo Direct 9.9.2026<\/a> with an announcement that the sprawling hack-and-slash prequel Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity<\/em> is coming to Nintendo Switch 2 as a revamped Definitive Edition \u2014 complete with performance upgrades, all previously released DLC, and a brutal new difficulty mode. The release date is 25 February 2027<\/strong>, and pre-orders on the Nintendo eShop opened immediately after the Direct wrapped.<\/p>\n

What’s New in the Definitive Edition<\/h2>\n

This isn’t just a straight port. The Definitive Edition uses Switch 2’s extra horsepower to push the experience meaningfully beyond what the original 2020 release could deliver:<\/p>\n

  • Smooth 60fps gameplay<\/strong> \u2014 a genuine upgrade over the original Switch version, which had variable performance especially during the game’s massive multi-enemy battles.<\/li>\n
  • More enemies on screen simultaneously<\/strong> \u2014 the defining appeal of the Warriors formula, now turned up a notch.<\/li>\n
  • Calamity Mode<\/strong> \u2014 a punishing new difficulty where enemies hit harder, healing items are far less effective, and mistakes are costly. Veteran players finally have a reason to return.<\/li>\n
  • All 21 fighters included<\/strong> \u2014 the complete Expansion Pass roster (Sooga, Astor, Hilda and the rest) is bundled in from the start at no extra cost.<\/li>\n
  • GameShare support<\/strong> \u2014 allowing co-op play across two Switch 2 systems with one game card, a useful option for local two-player sessions.<\/li>\n
