Square Enix’s complimentary one-month subscription — bundled with the Switch 2 launch on 4 August — ended on 7 September 2026. From today, keeping your account active on Switch 2 means buying into Square Enix’s new FFXIV Coins system. Here’s everything Singapore players need to know.

What Happened on 7 September — and What Happens Now

The complimentary subscription Square Enix provided at launch has now lapsed for all Switch 2 players. If you’ve just picked up the game, you still get breathing room: registering a Starter Edition or Complete Edition today kicks off a fresh 30-day trial before any payment is required. That trial works the same way the launch window did — full access, no charge — so if you haven’t dipped in yet, now is still a reasonable time to start.

Once that 30-day period runs out, continuing to play requires FFXIV Coins purchased directly from the Nintendo eShop. These coins are the only accepted payment method for Switch 2 subscriptions, Mog Station services, and the in-game store on that platform. There’s no way to pay with a credit card directly through Square Enix on Switch 2.

FINAL FANTASY XIV – Gameplay Trailer – Nintendo Switch 2 — via Nintendo of America on YouTube

FFXIV Switch 2 Subscription Plans

Square Enix offers two recurring subscription tiers, plus a longer-term option that works out cheaper per month:

Entry — one character per world, covers access to the base game and all expansions. US pricing sits at around USD $12.99/month.

Standard — up to eight characters per world, otherwise identical. Around USD $14.99/month.

180-day subscription — prepaid six-month option at approximately USD $77.94, saving roughly a month’s cost compared to paying monthly.

Singapore players should check the Nintendo eShop directly for SGD coin bundle pricing, as regional rates differ from the USD figures above. Coins can be purchased in various denominations and stored in your eShop wallet.

Already Subscribed on PS5 or PC? You Qualify for 50% Off

This is the detail most SG players will care about most. If you hold an active paid FFXIV subscription on another platform — through Square Enix directly, Steam, Xbox, or PlayStation — Square Enix will charge you just half the Switch 2 subscription rate. For a lot of players in Singapore who run FFXIV on PS5 or a gaming PC, this turns the Switch 2 version into a very affordable portable companion.

Two caveats worth knowing: the half-price discount only kicks in while your other platform’s subscription is a fully paid one. If that other account is itself in a free trial period, the discount doesn’t apply yet. And each platform’s subscription is separate — your Warrior of Light, your gear, your progress all carry over seamlessly, but the subscription fees do not stack or cancel each other out.

Is the Switch 2 Version Worth Keeping Active?

FFXIV has one of the most active player communities in Singapore and the broader SEA region, and the Switch 2 port runs the game at full quality — no downgraded assets, full cross-play with every other platform. For casual raiders or story chasers who move between home and commute, keeping a Switch 2 subscription alongside a PS5 or PC account at half price is genuinely practical.

Players who only ever play at home and have no interest in handheld sessions can reasonably let the Switch 2 sub lapse and continue on their main platform without losing anything. Progress and purchases sync across platforms via your Square Enix account regardless of which subscription is active.

The latest expansion, Evercold, is fully playable on Switch 2 from day one.
